I was cruising at 115 mph and my blood was pumping. I was hanging out of a Bell 212 (civilian Huey) helicopter at 1,800 feet with no doors - my boots outside on the landing skids – while holding a machine gun. As the sun rose, our descent to treetop level told me that we were approaching the target area along the Brazos River. The Crew Chief issued his command to ready our full-auto weapons and to send the bolt home. Moments later, we got the intense “Clear to Fire, Clear to Fire!!” command over our headsets. The air was immediately filled with brass being ejected at 10-15 rounds per second – and the heady fragrance of burning gun powder.
We only got on three sounders, but hanging out of a helicopter shooting full-auto weapons is a great way to spend a morning!
Picture of the pre-flight briefing before pulling the helicopter out of the hanger and a few shots in-flight.
A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.
