Great old photo along with these comments on the East Texas History Facebook page.
Maybe some of you can identify some of the officers in the photo.
East Texas Game Wardens East Texas reminiscences.
“I was an only child born late in my parents marriage. Daddy was from Arkansas and Mom from Oklahoma. My Dad's family came down to Kilgore in the 1920s. My Mom and Maternal Grandmother(A Cherokee Native) came in a wagon. We spent most of our spare time fishing, hunting and just exploring East Texas. They taught me, I believe, the skills to survive in nature and the love of animals and the outdoors. Mainly to always obey The Law. I think that they knew every Game Warden in East Texas personally and were friends. I used to love to sit around those old country stores where all the old timers would sit, swap stories, tall tails, drink coffee, eat Longhorn 🧀 and crackers and rest in between huntin' and fishin'. That is how I started drinking coffee at 4yrs old. From then on I got up early ate breakfast and drank coffee with my Dad and Mom. Cowboy(my nickname) he used to say, it ain't coffee if you can see the bottom of the spoon. One Game Warden from Caddo Lake was constantly having trouble with a cantankerous old Cajun poacher who lived "back in the swamp. You couldn't get within a half mile of his house because of his "guard" guinea hens. Seems one day the Game Warden caught him out on the lake. Thinking he had him cornered he let down his guard and the old poacher took advantage. Me my Dad and Mom found the Game Warden stranded, hanging on to a Cypress tree in the middle of the swamp. LOL. We rescued him and I heard a lot of language I probably shouldn't have. A few weeks later we saw the Game Warden at the old store and my Dad asked how he was doing with the old poacher. He just smiled and said that he ran across him in Jefferson and told him about a much nicer house on more land, better hid and further into the swamp in LOUISIANA! WHEN my dad heard that, he asked if he was going to continue to try and catch him, to which the Game Warden replied, nope, he's the Game Warden in LOUISIANA'S problem now. LOL. I very nearly became a Game Warden but chose another Law Enforcement career. I continued to have those breakfasts, drink coffee, hunt fish and explore with my parents. On April 13th, 1973 I got up had breakfast and went to school. That afternoon my Dad passed away. The last cup of coffee I have ever had was on that day.”

Great story for sure
Thanks for sharing
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
