I have a mystery. One of two pig pipe has came up missing. To stake them down I used a T post cut in half so it was about 30 some old inches long. The post was drove into the ground leaving 24 or 28” sticking up.
Hmmmm, you drove it in all of 2 to 6 inches? Cannot fathom the possibility of 2 inches. Am I missing something here? That's what I read as well. Still scratching my head...

I’ve had it happen. I suspect thieves.

I regularly acquire continuing education credits in How Pigs Can Destroy Things You've Put Together. So about these CPE credits, are they based on a 45 or 50 minute contact hour?

Here is how mine are made. I found a couple modifications to this design make a big difference in how it works. I use just a couple 1/2” holes. Using 4 5/8” is to many and the pigs we drain it overnight. I also found putting the eyebolt in the cap end works better for me. I’ve had the eyebolt bust off the end of the threaded plug once . The cap is made of thicker material than the threaded plug. I also use galvanized chain swivels in lieu of brass fittings. If the chain gets wrapped around the stake and binds, I have found a big hog can torque it enough to break those brass snap swivels. The tip at the end of the article is pretty ingenious. “ Attach a cow bell to the end of his pig pipe so that the hogs will ring it when they push the pipe around. Carry another cow bell to your stand and when you gets ready to hunt, ring it and if the hogs are near they’ll come running to the dinner bell!” How to build a pigpipe

30 some inches long, 24-28 above ground, I would drive it in the ground a lot deeper if possible,
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

Sounds like maybe the pigs really had a lot of fun rolling and bucking your pig pipe, it could be miles away by now.

Mystery solved, Hog pulled it down the ravine a couple hundred yards. This is extremely rough country and to get it up to the fence where I can get to it with a atv was a 300’ incline of some of the roughest [censored] I have ever went through. So the mystery is solved. Now to figure out where the critters have gone. I’m afraid they have left in search of moisture ?

Yeah they can lift that chain up off the top of that post a lot higher than you would think. I never cut my posts down. Take a 5 1/2' post and drive in in the ground 18" at least. Leave at a minimum 36" of post sticking up out of the ground or a big pig can lift that chain right off. And honestly I prefer 40" sticking up. I also use swivels on both ends of the chain, and a ring around the post. The more places that chain can swivel/spin the less likely they are to twist it up and break stuff.
Your chain looks good. Just need a taller post.

I've lost one temporarily in years past. Hogs broke it loose from the stake and pushed it 100 yards down the hill behind the cedars. They get pretty violent with the pipes sometimes. I had a boar put several holes in a pipe with his cutters as he's tossing it around.

Yep I’ve lost a pipe for a full year and then after some spring rains I find it washed out at the back of my property about 1000 yards away from where I had it posted. I’m guessing a combo of the occasional cattle that are allowed through my property and the hogs worked the 5’ Tpost to just a slight enough angle that they were able to pull it free and then started rolling it away.
Weirdly enough they don’t like the pipe all that much these last couple of years. They are timed to our feeders and now seem to leave the deer alone a little bit better than when we had to cull them back previously
