Get a set of GRILL GRATES and the cost of the grill won't matter much.

I have an Old Country Wrangler offset smoker and about to upgrade to a Brazos model. I stopped using a gas grill several years ago and use a charcoal grill now. I’m seriously considering a Santa Maria style grill made by Old Country pits. I much prefer cooking with charcoal or wood can gas.

What’s worth a dang anymore? I grill much more than smoke so don’t need a dedicated smoker. Green egg or another ceramic is what I’m kinda considering at this point.

Don't you know that you can't get away with just having one type of grill? You need 1 each: pellet, gas, charcoal, stick-burner, BGE, Mex-wok, gas-griddle. Did I miss any?

Weber performer is nice with the longer table and the charcoal storage. Mine has a propane starter but don't like it. I use a chimney.

I have a Treager and Weber charcoal, you can pretty much do anything and everything with that combo.
I no longer have a gas grill or stick smoker.

Pellet smokers are tools like anything else, you have to learn how to use them to get quality similar to a stick burner.

Gas grill is a must have for me, no-mess-easy-cooking. This built in gas grill I have gutted and replaced all the burners, and the grills have been replaced. I pretty much cook like this all the time, with indirect heat heavy duty foil underneath, makes for easy clean up, and keeps the inside of my grill clean..

I like my stick burner mainly because I just like to build a fire every now and then...Pretty much always use wood from trimming my trees.

Love my portable charcoal webber...Pretty much take this on all my road trips..

Pit Boss Pellet Grills are built very well and you can get into a really good sized one for $500-$700.
I've had mine 2 years and without a doubt have cooked more briskets since getting it then I did the previous 25 years combined.
Best brisket, pork, ribs I've made have been on it.

I don't put a lot of 'manly stock' in the ability to light a damn fire and stoke it like some seem to so the change to a pellet grill for me was the right move. It allows me to keep doing work around my place while I cook a brisket or whatever we want to eat.

I put my briskets on at about 9pm and go to bed, let the pellet smoker do it’s thing

Yup
Cooked a 15lb brisket and a 10lb pork butt last saturday. Put them on at 9am at 225. Took brisket off at 165 degrees at 5pm to wrap and put back on up to 204. Cubed up the pork and put in a pan and seasoned it up some more and put it back on with the wrapped brisket. Both came off when brisket hit 204 about 9pm. Let them sit on counter overnight and then sliced up brisket in the morning and put it back in the juice in the foil and put back on the pit on low to warm up. Did the same with the cubed pork and then added some sweet baby rays to it about 2 hours before eating. Both were outstanding

Ive got an XL Big Green Egg and a Yoder pellet smoker and they both have their place for outdoor cooking. I prefer steaks and grilled meats on the Egg still and smoking on the pellet. If I had to choose just one for both uses it would definitely be a pellet of some type since the pellet will cook a mean steak as well. I think as long as you buy a solid unit you will be fine, the Yoder’s are a nice set up but other than it being built out of thicker material that will last pretty much forever it’s not than much different than the $7-800 set ups, at least that’s my oppinion on the situation up

There was a time when the true pit smoker guys looked at the new fangled welded up smokers and said the same thing. Kind of like fishing with all the new electronics. stir

No doubt

Lighting a fire takes a great big, hairy chested, strong man for sure.

Or work on our place that we have because we don't all live in a house on a 1/4 acre lot in a subdivision.

But it is all good if building a good fire makes you feel better.

If you don't enjoy a real fire, well you just aren't human. Never met anyone that doesn't like a real fire, even girls like a real fire. BTW, I would never have a fake fireplace, with lights inside and heat, hate those things...
