Just saw a short news article, NE Texas going to get a new ammo plant in Bowie county. Did not catch the complete story but looks to be at the old LONE STAR AMMUNITION PLANT in HOOKS, Texas. Going to be the largest plant in Texas.

I thought the main issue with primers was lack of components, not mfg capacity?

I've spoken to and worked with the father and son who are running it. Real good guys. The first order was creating the primers to be able to make the ammo. That's in the process right now.

I'm a little confused. Are these guys gonna produce primers OR acquiring their own for making their ammo?
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Both. Right now they are making primers. This new facility will expand their operations for ammo.

As a kid I lived on Red River Army Depot twice. Second time my dad was the base commander. Got to hunt from Lone Star all the way to the edge of RRAD by New Boston. 26K acres that only military had acres too. Some good times. Glad to see Lone Star getting a facelift.

There's no primers on the market to hoard. At this point, it's all going to the ammo manufacturers. Hopefully we'll see primers within the next year or so. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Ehh, I wouldn't go that far. I've had opportunities to buy 5k and 10k at a time from Natchez and have jumped on it to keep myself shooting. If one were so inclined, and I think it's likely some are, they could be sitting on a nice stash or trying to scalp them. Some of the shooters I know are trying to rebuild their own stash to give them at least another year of buffer because of how uncertain the supply has been. This will take some time to equalize.

Not true, I have bought primers as recently a yesterday at Midway and from other sources every month or two. No longer does a customer buy one or 2 sleeves as needed. Now buyers (me included) buy much larger quantities than normal not knowing how availability will be. Ive bought 6k so far in 2022.

I think some people are confused about the market and the affect a small group of reloaders have on it..there's something crazy like 8 BILLION primers produced annually for use in the US market alone. The near nonexistent trickle of primers to the consumer market where a handful of people score a few thousand every few months is so insignificant it's not even worth mentioning.
Anyone who's thinking hoarding is having any meaningful impact is just simply delusional. Primers aren't available because of market demand for ammo is way up, so the supply of available primers not being used for commercial ammo production that was being made available to the loading community got cut by like 99%. Now everyone who doesn't have a big enough supply to meet their shooting needs gets to fight over the scraps. Doesn't help that what does trickle down is almost exclusively sold in bricks online now instead of 100 packs - meaning fewer people get served the scraps.
The handloading community is simply too small and insignificant to have a meaningful impact. Even if every single person in the community was buying a few thousand every month - which they aren't and couldn't anyways due to lack of availability (not to mention not everyone could even afford to do so).... but even if they were, the community's primer market value would be hardly even worth a footnote in a market report on the whole industry. And that's exactly why the companies that produce primers haven't even attempted to increase the amount of primers they push to the handloading community. They won't say it out load, but the community simply doesn't provide enough value to them to pay us any attention; not with what they're making by using the primers in their own ammo during a time of excessive ammo demand. If the community's market value was significant, we wouldn't even be having this discussion because they would have already ensured adequate flow of primers to the community - in the scheme of primer production, it wouldn't really take that much.
The handloading community is merely an afterthought to the market - a way keep a little cash flowing in when things are slow in ammo sales and they're producing excess. If they aren't producing excess, the handloading community gets to starve. Make no mistake, we're the dogs waiting patiently at the table to be thrown the left overs LOL.

I think Henry is spot on. I was discussing Primers with an industry person and they said if you wanted a few hundred thousand and had the cash they were available to commercial folks. Ammo makers right now are sitting on orders that will take over a year to fulfill so it will be closer to two years than one for there to be primers readily available and that’s if the market returns to normal demand. I am not even sure what normal is any more with all the new shooters and guns sales breaking records every year. We whine about Democrats ( with good reason) but they have sure helped secure that the US is the most well armed militia (people) in the world!

Y’all know who makes the primers just show them the money. Was not referring to an FFL dealer but commercial manufacturers buying large quantities on regular basis.

I bought enough when they were $0.03 each. Don’t say that out loud and let the unprepared hear you. You will instantly become an evil hoarder and be hated by the guys that didn’t look ahead farther than a month. I have little sympathy for the long time reloaders that have ran out of primers due to their lack of planning but it happens I guess. The biggest downfall currently is the pricing and I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse from here, I’ve heard so many guys recently say “I’m going to wait for prices to drop” and they will be the first ones complaining about having to pay $200 for a brick in 2 years when they could have bought them at the current pricing and be ready for the next democratic/virus nut punch which is 100% guaranteed to happen again and again. If anybody needs to locate primers right now shoot me a pm and I can give you a heads up on where and when to buy them as long as you keep the info to yourself, I’ve got several methods to do it depending on how many your needing and it’s pretty much a guaranteed deal. I just received 17,000 more primers I ordered for a couple friends last week so their definitely available and in pretty much every flavor If you know where to look. Having said that the word on the street is that primers are going to drastically slow down into the market by the end of May through the rest of 2022 so keep that in mind if your starting to run low,,
