I had 3 extra roosters that needed to go, so I grabbed my cleaver and sent them up to the big chicken coop in the sky. My kids learned about a chicken running around with it's head cut off, that was fun. As usual, my baby girl wanted the hearts. She reminds me so much of her big Sister (23 now and I never see her, miss her dearly).

Catch 'em with a hena haugen (chicken hook), twist their neck and cut off the head after they are dead is how the old ladies used to do it.

I remember growing up, and my Grandma and Aunt used to hang chickens on the big steel tee-post clothesline between the houses. Tie their legs, hang upside down, and cut their heads off with a big butcher knife. Let them drain for a while, then process. My Grandpa tho would wring the necks and pop the heads off, then us kids would chase them down and catch them flapping SOB's. Old days and good memories!!

I raised turkeys in FFA, and we would take the cull birds and hang them in a tree. Weapon of choice was garden loppers, that was a bloody mess.

Brings back some good memories, from my childhood till my early 30's. My wife would probably faint if she saw that. She doesn't want to know where meat comes from, just wants it cooked and on the plate.

Good job with the Kids. Encourage her interest and you might have a doctor one day. We used to catch the blood, mix with gelatin and a little cotton, put in ice tray and freeze. Make great catfish bait.

Fine looking meal.
