What do all three have in common? Apparently, some people tend to see them as their own.
Our pastor this past Sunday warned everyone not to get upset if they found someone sitting in "their seat" this coming Easter Sunday. I'm sure many of us have heard stories, if not had their own experience where someone tells another person they're sitting in their seat. And while most people are not so blatant about it, you can often tell you're sitting in "their" spot. Like the time a few years back when I showed up early for my old high school football game. I was the only person sitting on the entire row when a woman comes walking down the row and sits immediately next to me. Now I must admit I was sitting right on the 50-yard line, which of course made it a prime seat. Still, I think she thought that by sitting so close I would get the hint and move so that she could have her seat.
I had something very similar happen on my last trip to the range. There wasn't another shooter anywhere on the 12 open benches so I took the last one in the row. There was no need to keep a few spaces open between myself and other shooters as I always try to do. A couple minutes later I look and her comes two older timers (yes, it does seem to be the older folks who like to own a seat) walking down the isle. And just like that women at the stadium, they pass up all the open spaces and plop down right next to me. I just smiled and gave them a courteous "Hello" before taking a seat on one of the spectator benches. I had plenty of time to wait for the next cease fire so that I could move back down the row and give us more space. It was while sitting on that bench that I smiled for a bit after thinking I evidently had just taken someone's seat on the pew.

Texas Dan, Funny that you brought that subject up. Been about 18 months since wife and I have been to church due to my health problems and Covid but last Sunday we walked into the sanctuary, knowing someone would have taken OUR seat but low and behold it was vacant. We sat down like we had never missed a Sunday but if I was a betting man, I would bet it will not be like that come Easter Sunday. Daniel

A pastor of a church that I used to attend called them CEO members. "Christmas and Easter Only". LoL.

Many pastors and faithful congregants have been told about CEO's and how to deal with them. Smile, be friendly, and invite them back soon.
