The thread about milk the other day got me to thinking. Someone or possibly several people replied with positive biblical references about milk, maybe cow, goat, human, who knows, etc

Have you ever looked up what foods are prohibited according to scripture? Pretty interesting.

As far as the NT which is the new covenant christians are in, there are no forbidden foods. Nothing morr than pure legalism to talk about forbidden foods at this point.

I have looked up what was forbidden. It is interesting. Couldn’t eat catfish, back then. I’m thankful God rethought that one.

Old Testament regulations.
God changed those with the new covenant.

This right here. Acts 10, starting in verse 9 is the passage that changes everything. No longer have Jewish dietary restrictions.

And catholics aren't christians, so they make up their own rules, lent, etc. Apparently Jesus dying on the cross wasn't enough, so they have the gospel plus something to help out their religion to sound more appealing

Catholicism is christianity, but as with nearly every big church there are many in christianity who “get it wrong”.

I know plenty of catholics who i will see in heaven. I also know plenty of protestants who i most likely will not (glad i am not the judge on that!)

Each denomination of protestant has its own rituals and beliefs that are different from the next. Its almost like CS Lewis described it, a bug anteroom with little rooms off the main where you go to find your place, each room slightly different in custom and practice, but the anteroom is christianity and you must believe to be there.

If you call Christ Lord and Savior and believe in HIs resurrection, we can be brothers and build from there.

Got some friends who decided they can’t eat pork anymore according to faith. I don’t remember Jimmy Dean ever being mentioned in the Bible

The Weak and the Strong
14 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written:

“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will acknowledge God.’”[b]

12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. 14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean. 15 If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.

19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.

22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.[c]

Peter's vision from Acts:

The next day at about the sixth hour, as the men were approaching the city on their journey, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.

He saw heaven open and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth, as well as birds of the air. Then a voice said to him: “Get up, Peter, kill and eat!”

“No, Lord!” Peter answered. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

The voice spoke to him a second time: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

Contempt is a term that describes a “lesser than” or “greater than” situation.

There hasn’t been much of that on this thread at all, except for the catholic reference.

More of an education on the new covenant vs the old covenant. That isnt contempt, it is just explaining. I am all for letting people participate in almost whatever “religious” rituals they want (and eating only certain foods is a ritual) as long as they are not distracting from the ultimate concept…i.e. as long as you don’t think the ritual is the cleansing part. If the ritual brings you closer to God and a life more closely related to Jesus, then the ritual is ok by me.

But far too many people participate in rituals that they think cleanse them of sin, or use the ritual to he a “self-saving” thing, “If i do X i will be holier” and that is the exact contempt from the scripture BigBob quoted. That is where religious ritual is completely wrong.

Doing a ritual to any of the little gods of the world are akin to worshipping an idol. Even if done in jest.

But far too many have their own rituals to all kinds of little gods they dont even realize.
