Been working on this, off and on for several weeks. Friend of mine traded me the 10" I-beam and H-beam. Thinking they were marginal, I trussed them in the shop.

Hopefully I can get a sawmill to make me enough milled utility poles to deck the whole thing with.

It has been a whole bunch of cutting and welding thus far. And more to come.

Wow at today's prices that bridge would go for like a kabillion dollars - that's impressive FG!

Gained some more on it today. Spent the morning cutting those 2' long posts, saddled on each end. Finally started welding around 1230, after a sammich. That bottom rail was a whoooollllleee lot of welding!

Looks good Jason! Thing should last forever. Couple questions. Are you going to weld some clips on the pipe to screw the floor too or how do you plan to screw the wood to that pipe? I know it spans a good ways on to the bank but do you have any plans to shore up the bank underneath to stop the erosion so the walls don’t erode away?

I am still trying to decide what to do for the decking to screw to. Putting screws into drill stem would be terrible.

I had a different location picked, and over the years I have owned the land, the previous location did erode. This location has held up well. During my land clearing in January and February I noticed wherever a bois d' arc is growing in the bank, the bank does not erode. The south bank of this location has a bois d' arc right beside the bridge. The north bank could be a problem later. It has crossed my mind to stack up concrete bags on the north side.

I’ve built a lot of bridges on creeks over the years and I’d suggest anchoring all 4 corners with deep posts of some type to avoid long term issues. All it takes is one good flood to cause some major issues where you’ll question your very existence on manhood roflmao
A few posts will/could save a crap ton of hard work and give you time to repair the issue before it ends up beyond repair after that once In a generation flood that seems to happen every few years these days lol.

Great job! I would make straps to go around the pipe and carriage bolt it through the wood or weld on some short pieces of angle to run a carriage bolt through.

The ends of the main beams are welded to 2 7/8" pipes that are driven 8 feet deep.

That would be a whole lot of bolts. And who is going to volunteer to get under the bridge to install the hex nuts, standing on a 12' ladder, that is sitting in a foot of water?

Torx drive wood to steel self tappers like are used on trailer decking is probably what I'm going to use. I may weld in some pieces of angle iron parallel to the cross pipes. Not every 2' though.

I could feel the pain from here trying to put screws I’ll drill stem! And 10-4 on the bank. That makes since but also why I was asking. Have experience with a few bridges down at the cabin and after time they like to erode away.

Just how many nuts does it take to equal 1 shot out of one of your long range rifles. I just might be crazy enough to climb that 12' ladder if the numbers aren't too high. LOL

Why not finish it out in pipe and overlay with sucker rod?

Regarding erosion I learned the hard way and had to redo my bridges.

Poke here

One plank at a time you can do it from the top. self tappers seem kind of scrawny for this project.

If you could find some 2 1/4” square tubing slap it across the beams every 4’ or so and screw into that. 2” might work too I just don’t know what that 3/8” gap between the wood and the tubing would do over time
