New to the forum. Hi everyone my name is Mike. I moved from East Texas to South Alabama when I was younger. Grew up hunting Anderson County along the Trinity River in Cayuga and have always wanted to go back to Texas to hunt. Alabama hunting is NOTHING like what I grew up with and leaves a lot to be desired.

Unfortunately I lost my lease in MO, so I have decided to try an outfitter out. Too cold up there anyways.. I have been trying to locate somewhere to go for the 2022/2023 season, but the internet and social media is FLOODED with options and recommendations to the point of being overwhelming.

My overall goal is to have a respectable chance at something in the 140-150 class range, or larger. If you have any recommendations please let me know. If you do not want to post publicly, then PM works just as good.

Welcome to our forum. It’s a great source for all kinds of hunting info.
It doesn’t sound like you want a lease. Are you looking for a package type hunt for just a few days? Guided or not? Any areas of Texas? Budget? Give a little more info and some can give better advice.

Budget is set at $5k. I'm not looking for a lease and rather get set up with an outfitter of sorts. Guided, semi-guided or DIY is all open for discussion and not dead set on any particular areas as long as it has good potential.

Two comments , I hunted NW Florida which is basically south Alabama and loved it . Kinda like hunting East Texas just more deer. Lived in Pensacola for 16 years. Hoping to move back for good

Try Chasin Dreams outdoors, owner is a guy named Jason. North Texas property, really good people

Something else I haven't seen mentioned is your preference on low versus high fence? Not trying to stir the pot either ... I think either is within your budget and requirements otherwise.

Another question would be desire to sit in a blind over a feeder versus being more out in the open via high seat or walking/stalking game ... again, all well within your budget

also are you looking for white tail or mule deer or possibly both?

140-150 is attainable pretty much anywhere in the state depending on outfitter, getting bigger will require a bit more effort and money the bigger you want to go.

Low fence and stalk whitetail would be my most preferred option if it were available. Not opposed to others but that’s just my preference.

Welcome to the forum.
With the budget you set you shouldn't have any problem finding a good place to take an animal that size.
of course it all depends on what you are looking for. Low fence hunt for a 150 on a place with a nice setup will likely take every penny of your budget to do it if not a little more. We were getting $5k for 150-160 10+ years ago on a high fence place that was 100% native genetics with no introduced genetics of any kind. That place had a very nice 5k sq ft lodge for the hunters, full meals, and fully guided.

If you don't mind hunting smaller high fenced places with introduced genetics and don't need to be wined and dined there are some out there where you can kill a 150" deer for much less than that.

Good luck on your search and your hunt

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Thank you. I definitely do not need to be wined and dined. I am perfectly content as long as I have a grill, cold beer and some good tunes to pass the free time.
