The Balvenie 12 Doublewood Scotch.

It is aged in oak barrels for 12 years and then in sherry casks for 6 months, hence the "doublewood" moniker.

Is it really all that?

Asking for a friend.

I’d like to try it, I’d rather see it around 120 proof however.

I’d rather buy a pour in a bar than pay the $70-$90 for a bottle without trying it first.

Smart up Wonder how much a pour would cost?

Only had it once. Very impressive.

I drink to get drunk, If I drank alcohol for the taste I'd quit.

Probably between $10 & $20

For the record, I do not enjoy being drunk... I love the taste of whiskey and high proof at that. If I didn’t feel the effect of the whiskey, I’d drink it by the gallon.

I have the Dalmore 12 on my shopping list at total wine, just not ready to pull the trigger on something at that price point.

Balvenie is good stuff. Your only regret will be that the bottle empties too quickly.

One $75 a bottle scotch is $11 a pour at the only bar that I know that stocks it.

Scotches are just now starting to get into that 55-60%+ range, still not a lot of them out there as scotches were historically indexed by age statement...which has been fading over time with increased demand. Even then, a lot of cask strength scotches are 105-110 proof. Extended life in barrel = more angel share

Aberlour A'bunadh is one of my favorite cask strength scotches. They label each batch and each can be wildly different. Example being, I love batch 56, but 58 was just way too hot and not enjoyable. Batch 46 and 54 were in that 120 proof range and drank like 90 proofers. Haven't tried too many batches in the mid 60 sequence numbers as they started just getting hot, but the pre 58 batches are all fantastic. Lots of other cask strength scotches are just awful. Glenfarclas makes a 105 that just tastes like diesel...and I'm a big time scotch guy. Macallan's earlier rare cask bottles were good, but not worth the money. Tomatin has some really cheap cask strength bottles (for scotch), but I don't really care for it while I generally adore everything Tomatin produces. The A'bunadh is the best for the money but again, each batch is wildly different
