I would like to share the experience I had with this outfit this winter. Now I know I don’t post here often but this has been knawing on me.
So to start off my buddy and I were looking for a whitetail hunt in December or January. We came at it pretty late so shame on us. But we found yourinsuranceguy on this forum and made a plan. It all seemed great we had good communication, all seemed well. Fast forward to January and we make our drive for Colorado to Colorado city. Again all was well had good conversations and all seemed well. We meet on a Friday and head to the ranch. Again all good, we get to the ranch and see there is a large group of hog hunters..... Ok still no real big deal it is a hunting ranch. We head out to look property over. The guide had obviously never been on the property before. He was essentially lost or seemed lost the whole time. Again whatever it’s a little disheartening when your “guide” is lost but whatever I could have let that be. Well we do our first evening set and get skunked. No deer no pigs we did see a lot of quail. Ok still trying to be positive it is what it is. We get back and get our first meal of the trip at 7 pm on Friday.
Second day rolls around. We head to the same blind, ok I’m sure they know what they are doing. I see maybe 6 does the whole morning.we are starting to wonder what we got into. Not to mention a hog hunter had set in my buddies blind the night before. We get picked up and our “guide” tells us how he went back and took a nap. Not really the best thing to say to paying hunters. We get back have lunch and listen to the guide tell us how great the place will be and talking crap about the other hunters. Around 3 we head out for our afternoon hunt. We see 3 does between the two of us In different stands. Head back have dinner and a few beers. The add I had read said we could shoot a doe if we wanted. We ask our guide he says he’ll ask never responded to us.
The last day starts we head out and granted the weather sucked it was windy and cold we saw three does between two stands. Well our hunt is technically over so we say ok we will pack up and leave. I call the guy in charge and am told that our final balance is $5000...... now that is 100% full price as is we had killed. I ask him why we would pay that when we didn’t even have one single opportunity? He tells me it’s free range and he can’t control that. Yes I agree you can’t guarantee anything but dang I didn’t even see one buck the whole hunt. Also there is point limit on the type of buck you can kill and you are set alone in a stand anyways.
Well my buddy and I head home and maybe I’m way off base for being angry. But I do feel as though we were taken advantage of. So take this for what it is.

You may have saved several members here a lot of money in the future. Sorry for what happened to you on this hunt.
I would have been very upset to find out that a hog hunter had been setting the the blind all night where I was placed by the guide
to hunt. FYI, I have never heard of a place that hunted hogs and deer at the same time. I'm not talking about sitting in
the stand and shooting a hog that wanders by. I'm talking about two groups on the same property. I am surprised that
you even saw a doe if they were out there all night hunting hogs.

That’s what we thought about the hog hunting too. And sure the property was decent sized 5400 acres but in the grand scheme I guess it’s not that big. Also we did not see a single deer driving to and from the stands. It also seemed the the ranch may have been low on cash because the feeders were all apparently low and needed manually spun and knocked to expel corn.

You shouldn’t feel bad about paying him but you might be able to negotiate a return trip since you didn’t see anything

This story is all too familiar and becoming more common. . I've been on some really crappy "pay" hunts. Thats a lot of money for such a bad hunt. I agree the guy should at least let you come back. But hard lesson learned.

I'm looking at some places to hunt this year. It seems the "good" one are already booked for 2022

Checked out their website, for a 5400 acre place under their gallery they have I believe 8 or 9 trail cam photos of deer there are a total of 3 deer in the photos. Same deer over and over and nothing to write home about. Believe there were 2 nice bucks that had been shot in photos but for 5400 acres their photos are lacking.
