Hello all,

I returning back to hunting and need to go practice shooting this weekend. I like in Houston.

FEDERAL PREMIUM .308 WIN 165 GR GAMEKING BTSP.

I use to buy this ammo from Carter Country, but they do not have it any more.

I have never bought ammo online before.

Can someone please recommend how I can find this ammo from a reliable source online or somewhere in Houston?

Thank you,

Try Ammoseek dot com. I took a quick look and the majority is FMJ. Use the search filters to narrow down to what you are looking for.

sgammo.com has it in stock right now. I have used them in the past and have always been happy. I also have 13 rounds of the federal 165 gamekings I'd let you have, but I don't want to deal with shipping. (shipping ammo is a PIA) If you are going to be up here in DFW or you know someone up here, I'll let you have it. Nothing wrong with it, I started reloading my own .308 and have no more use for it.

Thank you so much unclebubba for offering me some ammo.

I will order online.

What does reloading mean?

Thanks,

Sorry for the simple question, still learning as I go.

Are they the same type of ammo? I only hunt with carters ammo.

Thank you,

What is the advantage of making your own ammo vs buying from the store.

The seating depth is set to be just right for your chamber.
After powder selection, you test charges low to high, looking for the powder charge that shoots the best.
After you know the recipe for your specific rifle, each cartridge you make has a much more consistent powder charge from one piece to the next. Far superior than factory ammo, which can be very inconsistent on charges from one piece to the next, and when ammo lot numbers change, the ammo is often different than the last lot number.

Shipping ammo is easy and requires only slightly more labeling than any other package.

Pass the gravy.

If you ship or have shipped try not to use USPS….they do not insure live ammunition and will not authorize a search if lost.

And they specifically state they will not ship live ammo or components.

Dang I did not know that. I shipped some 30 carbine ammo a couple months ago with them.

Can't just drop it at the local UPS store. You have to go to a hub.

See FiremanJG's post above. In addition to being more accurate, you can save $ too.

Not true. You can use your UPS online account to print and pay for the label. Then you can drop it off at any mailing store. The UPS Store won't SELL you postage for ORMD but they will accept ORMD packages in many cases. I have never been to a hub to ship ammo UPS.

Pass the gravy.

Thank you FiremanJG,

In other words, are you saying that when I buy my box of 308 Win 165 Grain Soft Point Sierra Gameking Federal Premium Ammo, that one of the bullets in the box that I used to shoot the deer can be a bad bullet?

Thanks

Not necessarily. And to get the terminology right, so everyone can understand the bullet is fine. The cartridges put of box A can be different from box B, if the lot number is different. And, every cartridge from the same box can have a varying powder charge.

7000 grains in one pound. Bullets are weighed in grains, powder charges are weighed in grains. I have pulled apart and weighed some Nosler ammo. Their powder charge had a 3.0 gr variation. Most handloaders maintain a .1 gr consistency. So 30 times more consistent than mass production ammo. Then there are some of us that can maintain a .02 gr consistency, so 150 times more consistent than mass production ammo.
