So I’ve been wanting to do a charcuterie board for a bit and finally decided to knock it out.

Edge grain walnut, hand sketched and freehand cut on bandsaw.

I also really wanted to do some of the “Litchenberg Figure”, but did a bunch of research on it and really don’t want to be playing with that many volts of electricity. Alternatively I came up with the idea of creating a Litchenberg Figure graphic and using my laser engraver to engrave it into the wood which not only let me control exactly where I wanted it but it’s also about a million times safer lol.

Then came the epoxy pour. This is my first time using epoxy in woodworking. The pour went fine and I was digging the color. But after planing and sanding process it lost all the color almost. I’m guessing I didn’t mix the epoxy and color together properly or my engraving wasn’t deep enough. Still turned out decent and I’ll still use it, but time to try again lol.

Thanks bud, really liking the possibilities of the epoxy. I want to do a big river table and replace our cheap dinning room table. I have a few walnut slabs drying, but I don't think any of them are long enough.

Way better than my first try, I'm sure. Well done. up

I have a friend in Kansas who's started doing this He's been clearing some of his land and after purchasing his own sawmill, has really gotten into making these- he has gotten quite good, even selling in local cheese shops, etc. Depending on size, they go anywhere from $60-120! I'm sure he'd be happy to share his lessons learned if you would like me to facilitate link-up. No expectations, just shoot me a PM if interested.

Thanks bud, I’m always willing to learn what I’m doing wrong. PM incoming.

I guess it’s more so an epoxy fail than a charcuterie board fail. The board is fine and usable.

That’s actually what I told my wife. My 3 YO son said it looks like a tooth.

I messed around with Lichtenberg wood burning a few years ago. Definitely not something to do with other people around. It can definitely kill you quickly. I built mine from 2 microwaves, it was sketchy, but worked well.

I don't know if I'd call that a fail, but Jason has a good point. Lol.

I think you need more depth, looks like you sanded most of the epoxy off during your finishing

Yep that’s what I’m thinking too. Need more powerful laser to cut any deeper. If I go too slow it catches the wood on fire lol.

I actually didn’t like this one and since it was test piece I just freehanded a River with my router and repoured the epoxy. Haven’t had time to finish it out but it turned out better than the other.

Tell whoever buys it to not put it in the dishwasher. That’s something I didn’t tell a daughter.

Lol won't be selling this one, it is a test piece, might give it away when I'm done.
