If taking kids, keep them warm. The quickest way to ruin a hunt for a kiddo is to let them get cold. The second quickest way is to let them get hungry.

Best way to see a lot of deer is to hunt without a rifle.

Get the deer accustomed to you being around. Visit your feeders often. Drive the same vehicle to and from. Sit in the blind and do some old-fashioned scouting.
If you change sights, sounds or smells, deer will notice. It is just whether it is a threat or not. If they are accustomed to them, they will eat from the side of the highway or stand under a barrel on legs to eat.
We also open the windows of the blinds a few weeks before hunting. It is crazy the things our deer will notice that changed.
But then some deer are so accustomed to people and change that it doesn’t really matter. Hunting 100 yards away in a box certainly helps. Get out there and get to know your deer.

I agree with simple...however I hunt 40 yds. from my feeders..the deer know my smell....except new ones that show up..if the deer are down wind from me a new deer will spook...especially a mature deer. Throw corn out by hand every time you are there.

Goofy deer.
You clearly do not shoot out of the buggy. That machine can be a friend or an enemy.

Keep a good eye on the down game, give it some time before you recover your game.

Most people that shoot a deer from a vehicle they will then rush up to the deer immediately and educate all the other deer that are there. If I shoot from a vehicle and there are other deer around, I do not drive to get the deer till the last deer has left. Same when hunting from a deer blind, if I shoot I do not get out till the last deer has left. Educating deer is what makes them act they way they do.

Bullets travel a long way! Be aware of what is behind your target. Never - ever take a shot that has the potential for the bullet to leave your property.

Maybe it doesn’t apply as much in Texas, but where I hunt, focus on the EDGES. Edges are where different habitats meet, like where pines meet the hardwoods, or field edges. Deer travel the edges.

Hunt the wind, hunt the terrain, look for movement, stay focused on your surroundings, and be patient, Best advice I can give new hunters is "pay attention". Over time, you'll learn to identify the shift of an antler in brush, the flicker of a tail, the twitch of an ear. Observe, observe, observe. See how the deer use the terrain. How do they enter fields, brush or tree lines? How do they exit? What times to they move? Where do they go when they leave? Observing their behavior will lead you to better awareness and the ability to formulate a plan. I agree on ignoring most social media, it distorts reality. You don't need every new fangled tech or high-end anything. You need a well-maintained reliable weapon that you've practiced with and are comfortable with, comfortable clothes aligned to the weather and terrain, a good sharp knife. Move slowly, easily, using the terrain and vegetation and light/shadows to your advantage, Stay quiet!

Dress for the elements. If your warm, dry and comfortable , you will stay out there longer.
It’s not all about killing that deer, take a minute and enjoy the sunrise, the scenery. Relax
and just be thankful for what your given, it’s not all about what your taking.

I had my first season this last season and was very fortunate for it to be my inaugural hunt on an MLD lease

Listen to these guys with enjoying it. It can seem easy to jump in and wear the honeymoon out quickly and make it feel like a chore. Don’t make it a chore. I a lot of times would go check feeders and cameras and sit in the stand just to hang out

Something I also work on frequently, since I’m not a consistent year round shooter, is every 10-30 minutes, I’d grab my rifle and position myself to shoot and pick a tiny spot down range and work on my breathing. Then pick another spot and do the same. You’d be amazed how much that scope will bounce that first time you see a deer through it!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
