An earlier post questioned why there were fewer posts on these forums. Some responded by saying things always get slow after hunting season ends, and I’m sure that’s part of the reason. Others drew attention to the those who you can find in every crowd who just seem to enjoy attacking practically any comment that offers them the opportunity. I will admit there are many times when a good topic crosses my mind that I let lay rather than waste time here. And the funny thing is, this may very well end up being one of them.

The wife and I were watching an episode of MASH the other night in which Capt. Pierce was his usual sarcastic self about a general considering him as his personal physician. After listening to Pierce give all his reasons for attacking the general and his (Pierce) being stuck in the Army, Potter told him this, which I’ll paraphrase…

“Son, there are far too many people in this world than to try and take on all of them.”

It's the "nature of the beast" ....when it comes to chat forums and social media.

I'm often reminded of this quote....

The quote is from Shakespeare's play Hamlet. In act 3, scene 1 Hamlet contemplates the pain and unfairness of life: “To be or not to be? Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them…”

Everyone will have an opinion about your opinion...in most cases!

I'll once again channel Cousin Eddie to Clark: "He's got a little Mississippi leg hound in him. If he get's up on ya', it's best to just let him finish." I apply that to few, and don't engage them back, or give them an ego inflating compliment.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Another good quote that applies to the topic at hand…

“The goal of an argument is to determine who is right, while the goal of a discussion is to determine what is right.”

IMO, discussions are far more reaching and open to new inputs and can often end up with an answer that includes the words, "It depends".

My Ol Dad, before he left this shiddy world always said "never argue with an idiot, they just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

My dad used to say arguing with an idiot is like teaching a pig to sing……it annoys the pig and wastes your time.
