Yesterday morning my brother went with me again. Fishing was about as good as it gets for about an hour. I planned to just release everything but he talked me into a fish fry so we brought home 31 and let the rest go. Saw the Game Warden for the 4th time in 5 trips as well. I’m the one that had to haul them out and back to the truck. LOL

I wish the water was that color down here, would be easy pickins compared to our chocolate milk!

Right now that creek has about 18" visibility which is considered very muddy for that area. Usually this spot would have about 4' visibility but because of the crazy heavy rain earlier in the week its still off color.

I have another creek I fish pretty often that is like chocolate milk right now but still catch quite a few out of there. Its more off the beaten path but I dont like to keep fish from there because it has a real soft silty bottom and the muddy taste is pretty strong in those fish.

Any rain makes chocolate milk down here! I can’t see a chartreuse roadrunner past 4-6” here, all about the flash!

Before the sun came up every fish we caught came on jigs. When the jig bite stopped shortly after day break I switched over to a lure that I make myself. After about 10 in a row on that bait my brother got smart and picked up my other rod with the same lure on it and started catching them as well. By the time we left we had 8 other guys (no joke) throwing right on top of us and there might have been 3 fish caught between all of them combined. Creek Sandbass are a completly different animal than when they are in the lake. Its all about being able to read current breaks, casting angles, and matching the forage. Even live minnows wont work in certain areas. Had a guy yesterday morning show up with minnows fishing 15' away from us and he caught 1 short one and that was it. By the time a fish makes it half a mile upstream he/she has a Masters Degree in lures and live bait rigs. I did have one fish yesterday that completely blew my mind though. It was my first cast with my handmade bait and after I pulled it out of the water I had a 15"+ Sandbass grab it mid air right at my feet.

Bicycle is the only alternate transportation allowed in this area. Aint no way you can ride a bike in 4" deep mud for close to 2 miles. In fact i wear metal cleats just to be able to climb the steep muddy banks.
