Please give me y’all’s opinion On the best long range scope that has elevation and windage adjustments, that will also be good for hunting varmints at night. I currently have a vortex pst 6x24x50 and it’s not good at night. Any suggestions?

Night Force NX8 F-1 Mil-C reticle (you said "best" for hunting and shooting) You did not put a budget on it.

And the title of the thread, I won't own one. Seen way too many Vortex break down. Everyone touts their warranty and everyone has used it. Including me for two different optics.

Shooting long range precision and also hunting at night with the same scope is tricky. What is the main priority? How far is "long range"? Do you want a digital or thermal or regular optic?

I have a few of their optics and they are affordable with a good warranty. They will work just fine for the average joe. But as FG mentioned, Nightforce is where its at.

For night hunting, thermal is the answer if you can afford it.

Anything less than the PST Gen 2 and Vortex is really poor quality and performance. PST Gen 2 and 3 are both good performance and mediocre quality. Razor is better on both fronts. If you want pure quality, the Razor AMG is probably the best scope they make. Those rarely seem to have issues. They're also lightweight and very good (but not amazing) optical performance.

I’m looking for a regular scope, and a 1000 yards is max. That I will shoot and that will not be often. My gun is capable, so I would like to put an compatible scope on it. My priority is to be able to see out of it at higher magnification, and still be able to shoot critters at night.

PST 2 would work
Razor with their stupidly heavy weight would be better

No Diamondbacks or pst 1 as they mostly suck

What do you think about the Viper HST?

I don’t think many 6-24 scopes would be good at night on anything near the top end magnification. I’d make sure whatever you buy is First focal plane and illuminated so the reticle works at lower power.

An arken ep 5 is 3x the scope that a vortex razor is and can be had for around $500 tracking is 1000% spot on.

Ive had a few vortex products and have had 2 that were goofy and didn’t track well also had one the would not focus the parallax knob was binding and slipping.

Ive had the viper line, the Diamond back tactical, and 2 pst’s. My shooting buddy has the razor. Not a fan.

This is your winner. Bushnell’s best glass, 3x on the low end for night shooting, plus 56mm, and illuminated dot. Exposed turrets for dialing for your 1000 yd shots. And it’s currently on sale.

Seems like the Forge line was canceled immediately after release. I remember it being removed from their website a few months after release.

This seems to be the common theme with Vortex. I like their binos and rangefinders but I’ve known a lot of guys with issues. I’ll never own another Vortex Scope and probably won’t buy anymore binos if my current pair of Fury’s crap out on me.

Optics and hunting equipment isn’t something you should really tout your warranty on.

They're just fine for range use but I wouldn't hunt with them. They've always looked cheap to me. I won't buy any brand except Leupold after getting burned on a Trijicon Accupower.

I’ve been extremely happy with our Leupold scopes. I do like my Vortex Fury Binos but I don’t trust them 100%, not do I trust my vortex scope 100%.

I’m gonna stick with Leupold, Swarovski and Zeiss from now on.

My partner was in Tajikistan in December and a member in his party had a pair of Razor 5000’s ( he had a pair as well ) and the rangefinding aspect of the optic quit working. Your 100% had to depend on it. He ended up having to use a leupold 6X rangefinder to range his animals. F-that. You pay for a product it better damn work especially when your halfway around the world

I can only speak to what I’ve owned

• 8x45 Razor Bino’s. Never an issue, my kids use them now. Almost 19 years I think.
• 4-12 viper first scope Vortex released. Japanese built. Think it’s 16-18 years old. Traveled all over the nation • • • the first one I bent the third week I had it, fell off 4wheelers. Vortex replaced and been trouble free
• Vortex rangefinder- liked it but wanted auto dimming so gave it away
• Vortex 11-33x50 razor HD spotter.. done a ton of backcountry hunts last. Had it +- 10 year, I dropped them off a ledge this year and Vortex sent me new one.
• Run an LHT on my 28nos and had no issues with it. But it’s only seen 30ish days in the field this year between multiple Mule deer and whitetail hunts.

I’m extremely rough on gear. That’s not an exaggeration in the least bit. I havent had the issues others claim but I pretty much only run the Razor line. I don’t think they offer as good of value on their upper end glass as they use too, from a price point perspective. I see no performance issues.

I see zero point in a night force for hunting. I’d run March before Nightforce. That’s a lot of weight IMO compared to equal options

Simple answer Swaro X5i or their sister company Kahles k series but that’s a completely different price point the Vortex

Thanks for everyone’s info. I still can’t make my mind up on a good hunting/ long range optic. What do y’all recommend on a good hunting/long range”max1000yrds” scope. I want at least a 50mm obj. And something that doesn’t start off at 6x zoom. What are y’all’s thoughts on the NIGHTFORCE SHV 4-14x50mm F1 Illuminated Moar Reticle Black Matte Hunting ScopeNIGHTFORCE SHV 4-14x50mm F1 Illuminated? Thanks in advance.

I have a bunch of different brands of scopes. Of all the ones I have the only ones that have had to go back for warranty issues are Vortex and Burris.
I'm sure all the brands have issues that need service or replacement. My most recent purchases have been Athlon, Arken and Primary. That said if your night hunting get a thermal.
