paging Skinnerback

Never been and want to take a trip to enjoy some good food and have a nice relaxing area. New Orleans is about 7 hours away and I know there is all kinds of things to do there. But where else should be on the list of places to visit and see.

There are a variety of plantation homes around the greater Baton Rouge/New Orleans area.

Jackson Square. The Cabildo. Beer at Lafitte’s blacksmith shop. Burgers at Port of Call. Muffalotta at Central Grocery. And that’s just in the French Quarter. Wander the Farmers Market.

Stay alert, SIL says crime is worse than ever.

You could eat at the Blue Dog Cafe in Lafayette on the way to NO.

Man I've spent a lot of time in Louisiana, but 98% of it was work related. I've never gone just to have fun and site see etc, so someone else will be more helpful here than me.

I'm a chili head, so agree with Gobbler Groper on touring Avery Island.

Good recommendations above, I would stay as far away as possible from NO, gets worse by the day. St Francisville is another part of the state that's worth visiting.

Thanks! That is a place I was trying to remember.

We just spent a month in New Orleans without a problem and had a great time. But we take precautions and don't get crazy or try to buy something we ought not to. My advice is don't be stupid and you will have a good time in New Orleans.

We went out a lot at night and also Ubered around, particularly if drinking.

If you don't make to NOLA , Drago's has a location in Lafayette now , The chargrilled oysters are amazing . There are two locations in the
New Orleans area , one at the Hilton on Canal street and the original in Metairie.

Chalmette battlefield…haven’t thought of it for many years. As a junior engineer at the refinery down the road, I was ‘volunteered’ to give tours of the battlefield to refinery visitors.

Near the battlefield, on that St Bernard Highway, is (or was) Rocky and Carlos restaurant. You will never have a better Po Boy than theirs. Rocky and Carlos is the real deal. Lord, I’d love a fried oyster po boy from there. And go to Randazzo’s Bakery and buy a King Cake.

We lived in ‘da Parish’ for 7 years. Katrina erased our little footprint (the house we built), but I hear Rocky and Carlos rebuilt, as did Randazzo’s.

And, if in the NO area and find yourself hungry and near a sandwich shop, order a “meatball po boy, dressed, with American cheese, and extra hot mustard”. And thank me later.

And here I am in central Texas, the definition of a food wasteland. This thread reminds me what I can’t have any more, though the wife does a great red beans and rice, a superb stuffed artichoke, and a darn good Muffalotta sandwich.

That tornado the other day should have cleaned up a nice swath through town. I know its a short term solution, but even temporary improvements are good.
