Shows you how much people value the hunt, the experience and being out in the field.
Otherwise quail would be farm raised at the level of chicken, which I believe in the next ten years they will be.
Over the next ten years I’d also expect to see lots more pheasant available on the open market, as well as prairie chicken(grouse).

One of my buddies manages a quail farm. They sell processed farm raised birds to restaurants grocery stores etc.

Yes Coturnix quail are farm raised by the millions. There are 2 ranches in South Texas that have no less than 250K birds on property at any time. Almost all market birds are Coturnix quail, they go from hatched to butchered in 8 weeks.
Very tasty and fun to have on the farm.

Watching that video reminds me of all the Modern Marvel and How It’s Made shows where I am constantly amazed at the elaborate automation equipment that mankind can dream up to perform specialized tasks.

How deep do you plant a quail egg?

How much do you water it?

Shouldn't it be called "ranching"

I’ve been giving serious thought to adding quail to my chicken operation. Love to eat quail and quail eggs. Might as well throw some ducks in there too.

Used to be a man in Abilene that raised quail and rabbits, The quail were sold to a couple of restaurants, the rabbits were sold to anybody that had the money. He bootlegged whiskey and beer as another sideline "business". According to, my uncle he was a real shady character, he said he spent 15 years in prison for murder. But he always had a coke for us kids so we liked him.

Coturnix are dark meat, Bobwhites are white meat.
I'll eat them all.

Or the monotony of sorting eggs by hand 40+ hours a week?

This thread is making me hungry. One of the best meals I ever had was some fried quail in Boerne.

Quail eggs? Do you have to cut up little tiny strips of bacon? smile. On a serious note, how long will quail that are pen raised survive? I hear you put the quail out the night before a hunt.

Duck eggs are the best.
