Doesn't take long to get the muscle memory and you end up with scary sharp knives. Expensive tool, but will be worth it in the long run.

I've wanted a wicked edge. I use the Lansky, which is the same basic premise, but about 10% of the price. Yes, it makes scary sharp knives, and I recommend the lansky to everyone. I just can't rationalize the $500 bite for the wicked edge.

Hey FiremanJG

How is this better than a Lansky

I can see how It's better. Looks easier to set up, bigger stones, and like Jason said, you can sharpen both sides at a time. I just don't see it as 90% better when the lansky is only $50.00.

Expensive for sure.

I looked at it as an investment. Buy once cry once. If I live another 40 years $500 ÷ 40 = $12.50 a year

Jerry, watch some of their youtube vidros and stop the belt when the tip of the blade reaches the center of the belt to prevent rounding off the tip of the blade

Spyderco Sharpmaker. It works. I sharpened my wife's sewing scissors this weekend. Hit a few kitchen knives, too.

I put a edge on with a Lanksy Diamond deluxe set, then to fresh it up I will use a Smith's Adjustable Pull-Thru Knife Sharpener and a leather strop. I can Straighten a edge on a steel and pull 10 stokes through the ceramic and finish up with 10 stroke of the strop and it will be scary sharp.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

The problem with knife sharpening is you can use all the great toys at home and get a really sharp knife. My problem was out in the field after deer/hog skinning, and the knife is getting dull. Since it’s all about the angle of the dangle and I’m using tool steel (D2) at least these days I have the work sharp ken onion version I set at twenty degrees for around the house and in my war bag that my end up anywhere I’m hunting I have a set of spider on ceramic that I bought years ago. That way no matter where I end up I can keep my knives razor sharp, because they are both set for the same angle.

I have hand sharpened my whole life and go until I can shave the hairs on my arm. While I get a blade sharp I have a tendency to put 2 different angles on a knife. A friend showed me that wicked edge system and what it does to a blade is scary. Perfect angles and you have to handle the blade carefully after you are done or you will hurt yourself it is so sharp. I don't have one yet but I certainly will!...

This. I have a Ken Onion. I follow the directions and it'll make it sharp enough to split hairs, if that's what you want. It has the correct angles for different types of knives and uses.

Crock sticks and the spouse carries a DMT double sided sharpener in his pocket or pack for field touch ups.

Wicked Edge is definitely #1 for me with the Tormek in second place

I currently have

Wicked edge
Tormek
Veil 1x42
Reeder 2x72
Ken Onion Angle Set - Keep in my hunting pack

Various Japanese wet stones for straight razors

Next up will be the
Work Sharp Precision Adjust

Lately, I have been using the 1x42 to set the angle and then move to the wicked edge

I used to make knives. I tried them all but found that the Baldor that the gun show guys use is the best and quickest method. Start with the 1 hp. Don’t get a smaller, less expensive one. They just don’t have the rpm’s that you need.

Expensive? Yep but my last one worked for over 30 years before I burnt it up.
