I Googled it but still confused ... what's the best way to mail a rifle from an individual (me) to an FFL? Post office? Not clear about regulations. Thanks for any advice.

I have just sent them through USPS. Don't have any markings on the box saying it is a firearm.

I shipped four rifles to FFLs last year via the post office. It was no big deal. They did want to see a copy of the FFL of the recipient. I am not sure if this is an actual requirement or just what my local post office wanted to see.

Sure you can take it to a local gun store and they will know what to do but they are not going to do it for free and it really isn’t necessary. Individuals ship guns everyday.

USPS

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

USPS will be easiest and least expensive. Pack it well, unloaded, in a non-descript box, and ship it insured with tracking.

As has been said, USPS is going to be the cheapest way.

A word of advice, try to keep the box as short as possible. What I normally do is ship the stock, bolt, trigger, etc, directly to the buyer and then ship the barreled action to the FFL. The other thing you should do is send it registered mail, insured. That way it has to be signed for each time it changes hands. It is a bit more expensive, but I have found that the boxes end up showing up in much better condition than it you send it regular priority mail.

Here is another resource you can look into: https://www.shipmygun.com/go/

Just curious as to why you would dissemble the gun and pay for 2 shipments instead of 1 and you still have to ship via an FFL anyway?

You can ship it with USPS if it is going within the state.

FYI this is for long gun or shotgun. Not handguns.
