A few of my scopes came with flip up lens covers and others didn’t. I think butler creek makes some but not sure if other brands are out there or what are the best ones. I want to order flip up covers for all my scopes. I want ones which seal fairly well and don’t pop open on their own. I ride around a lot in my UTV with my rifle and uncovered the scope gets so dusty it is almost unusable. Which brand should I get?
How are these things sized? By scope model or outside diameter or ? I have noticed scopes of different brands have different exterior dimensions even if they are both 3x9x40 or whatever.

Thanks. Ordered a set of the Tenebraex. The look nice on their webpage but they sure are proud of them.

Once you break about eight set of Butler Creek caps, you paid for Tenebraex.
Except the Tenebraex won't break.

Agree on the Butler Creeks. It’s like something has changed in their process. Whenever I break one, the first thing I notice is that it’s not one that I have had for decades. It’s usually one on my newer rifles. I should note that the only “cover” I broke this year was a colored lense flip up on my streamlight so it isn’t just the Butler Creeks. May be that manufacturers are more concerned about profit margins than satisfied customers these days. Maybe Tennebrax realizes happy customers equate to downstream profit margins.

Aadamount and MK Machine also make very good covers
Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?

Put Tenebraex on a VX5-HD yesterday. Fantastic so far. I can tell by the design on how they mount up and the materials used that I won't be throwing these in the trash like the last set of much less expensive flip up covers I had. Those were great at first, but once they were on a while and didn't hold up, canned 'em. I'll be getting another set of Tenebraex after I use these a while.

Out of curiosity, since it’s a Leupold, why did you not try the alumina caps?

Good question. Recommendations here and some online reviews convinced me to give Tenebraex a go. I believe the Alumina's were a little more expensive, but not that much more. Also, I like trying manufacturers that are new to me, you never know what you may be missing by staying in one lane. So, if it's not a product I'm already good with, I'm open to giving a new company a shot.

Don't throw the Tenebraex away they are your best option...outside of the Alumina caps...those are the caps all the others strive to be. I think I'm going to sell the rifle the vx5hd is on and I'll likely let the scope go too....those caps are the one single thing I'll miss the most about that scope and is honestly a good reason to keep the scope I'd be willing to bet there are guys out there who buy the Luepy just because those alumina caps are bar none the best out there.

Buy once, cry once. Many times I have pressed the eyepiece release on a butler creek cover only to have the cover fly off into oblivion while I am sitting in a blind. Tenebraex are worth the cost! Also, Aadmount covers are really good and I wouldn't hesitate to say they are probably even more rugged. I like both, but tend to stick to Tenebraex.

I have had the same set of Butler on my gun for 12 years with no issues. Y’all are hard on equipment… If they slip on, they will slip off, someday. The way these Tenebraex attach, the objective threaded, the eye piece with a torx head set screw, they aint' coming off.

I normally run them on front but not back. I have Tenebraex and vortex.
Unless you have 70 degree or less bolt throw the rears can be a pain

Yeah, nobody ever confused my gear with purdy gear. I am not hard on my equipment, but I expect it to hold up to what I am holding up to while hunting. My rifles are in out and of the truck numerous times each night, going under, through, and over fences, getting hung up on tree limbs and briar, in the mud and rain. When it is dry, it get dirty & dusty as well. Stuff that doesn't hold up gets replaced with stuff that does. [quote=FiremanJG] Maybe you are transporting them wrong… All day long and twice on Sundays. So the equipment needs to be good. I happen to like Vortex Defender caps for what I do. Tenebraex doesn't have anything for my thermal scopes.

I have been hunting with Butlers on my rifles since the latter eighties, say what you will. Back then there weren’t a whole lot of choices and been all over Texas, climbed up in tree stands, and hunted in all kinds of weather, and never had a failure. I’m sure there may be better out there, such as the leupold’s but as a working man back then they protected my scopes and still do I might add. It’s easy. Some of us on this site with the ability to acquire the newest whiz-bang gadgets and shoot lights out at 1000 yards need to remember that not everyone can or chooses to participate at that level. So I’ll shut up now and take my wood stocked rifle, with a Simmons scope, and butler creek covers and shut up now.

I’d rather have a Simmons Aetec with an adjustable objective and made in the Philippines than many scopes mentioned here almost daily.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

I've used the cheap ones and the expensive ones. For my uses, there's no difference. But I'm pretty easy on my guns
