That’s why you work with the bullet company before attempting 5K velocities! Solid copper monolithic does not shed like CC bullets.

5K+ Congrats that is quite a feat. Wonder what the barrel life will be? Mono bullet would be the only way to go.

THat is fast my 17 Remington runs the factory 25gr at 4250, i have loaded 20gr to 4600 and not sure what the 15gr ran, onlyshot it once and that one went in a puff as it came apart with a nice vapor trail.


I did a quick google on the eargesplitzen loudenboomer that was a 378 weatherby necked down to .224 and running a 50gr bullet built by Ackley and he said in one of his books with what he considered a mile load got 4600fps. That was in the 60's. Hutton a d Charmicael had him build it. These days google says that was the top speed but I would take Aclkey's word he expected them to get a lot higher than his load. What they reached them and NASA know. It was a project for NASA.

Barrel life is a really good question. Got chamber specs and will watch it for burn out. Accuracy will also reveal a lot.

I would not even have attempted this project without Hammer Bullets Thumbs up on velocity.

At the muzzle yes. But velocity will drop off rapidly with that light a bullet and the sectional density.

At those speeds I'd expect the bullet to explode upon impact making it useless on hogs but you said it's something custom, any swine shot with it yet?
