Why cant I ever find the king of cartridges' anywhere? I am seeing ELDX and barnes going for a ridiculous 3 to 4 dollars a round on the internet. As soon as I see some Corelokts available I am going to buy 10 boxes. Looks like $33 a box for those now. Geez!
I am down to 4 boxes of ELD X and 6 boxes of Barnes. Im starting to panic. I would like to use my 30-06 for sitting in a blind in a few days but I dont really want to waste the 4 to 5 rounds to go sight it in.
I went to my Academy today and they had 308 350 legend 223 some rimfire and just small amounts of other rifle rounds. But no 30-06 for the past year or 2 it seems now

Give me a day to check, but I might have some 180 grain corelokts as well as some hand loads.

The Allen Cabela’s has a reasonable selection. Not cheap, of course.

I appreciate the offer on the core lokts but I am ok for now since I still have 10 to 11 boxes left but that doesn't feel like much when you don't see it on the shelves anymore.
Obsolete?! I dont think so buzz. It is still the king of cartridges in versatility not to mention its 100+ years of getting it done. Kind of like a 1911 or a 50cal Browning M2.

I often see them at Walmart and sometimes academy Sometimes at both for me. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning are the best times to check at my local Academy. That's because the trucks with ammo arrive Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights.

30-06 isnt the king of cartridges any more. If it was, it would be on the shelf and easy to find. If Im a store, I sell what people are buying.
Cant explain the 350 legend other than Walmart and Academy must have misfired on the popularity and now they cant get rid of it so its always seemingly in stock but its really just the same ammo sitting on shelf all the time.

Most times my Walmart has only 28 gauge and 350 Legend. Lately they've had massive amounts of Federal AutoMatch and CCI MaxiMag 22WMR.
Never looked for .30-06.
Pass the gravy.

And 350 Legend… which was obsolete before they ever dreamed it up There are states (Iowa) where you have to rifle hunt with a straight walled cartridge. It's amazing what politicians can come up with. One of our retirees lives in Texas and has family land in Iowa. He bought a .350 Legend.

I find it ridiculous that the 2 most historically popular cartridges the 30.06 and the 30/30 are all but impossible to find, and when you can the price is ridiculous. $55.00 a box for core lokt 30/30's......Yeah, [censored]!

I think they "used to be" two of the most popular cartridges.
My bet is .223 Rem and .308 Win are owned by more Americans now days. And ammo makers learned that in around 2009 with the first big scare. So the next big scare they started producing those two more than many other cartridges.

Like a .44 mag for starters. I know the 350 legend is marketed as a 200 yard deer cartridge but it’s not. It’s like they tried to make a straight-walled equivalent to the 30-30 but failed.

Can one get an AR-15 in .44 Mag? I really don't know that.
Good rifles in .44 Mag have gotten pricey. I still want one in a Marlin 336. It will be much more money than any AR-15.
