We have talcum powder like dust and after a few days in here, my rifle and optic are coated. I'm thinking nothing short of a zippered case inside a hard case will work for me. I'm looking at Kolpin Stronghold gun boot XL. Anybody got one?

This is great, rifles ride really secure, stay dry, and this rack takes up zero space in the bed, but I'm leaning to replace if I can find a solution to the dust problem.

I had the same problem in my Teryx, in both northern and southern Utah and also here in Idaho. The only way I could keep them halfway clean was with a stretchy gun sock. It's not fast getting the firearm out, but that was never my intent. I just want ti clean, getting where I'm going.

Might have to try that. That rack/boot combination isn't what I use when I need to get to the rifle quickly.

had same issue with dust, put on a double gun carrier similar to this:

rifle carrier

seems to work pretty good at keeping the dust at bay.

I like that, but with roof and rear window won't work. Maybe a single carrier, not as wide inside would work.

you could mount it on that headache where you gun boots are mounted. I have a homemade high rack on the back of my Kubota and the straps are very adjustable for mounting. I'll see if I can find or go take a picture.

Now we're talkin'. You have Kolpin SKU #'s? My mount location could be contributing to the amount of dust.

I sure don't. I ordered 2 gun boots and mounting brackets from cabelas 11 yrs ago. We had exact same setup on old Mules in 2006. Might have to check with kolpin website. The two angled brackets were in the kit along with center mounting hub for boot.

I ordered the stronghold xl boot, has a zippered liner. There's a lock-n-ride bracket that it fits into with the rifle carried inside the bed. May have a review of it next week.

I hope they have improved how the liner is attached to the inside of the boot. My boots were made to fit the longer rifles and rifles with larger optics...but the liner was attached inside with velcro.....it worked ok but was difficult to get my rifles in or out at times...then the liner would also come out with the rifle every so often.

My gun boot was doing the same thing. Took it to an upholstery shop and had the "sock" removed. The guy was able to get a wool type fabric liner glued into it. Been working for 4-5 years now.

Got off to a rough start with this thing. The supplied internal soft case is crap. It's too small, rifle just doesn't want to go in, and out easily. I do have a stock pack, and an over sized bolt knob. So, I use my own case that zips up, put it in the hard case and it's super easy and secure. I don't have to remove my own case, it rides in the hard case and my widest rifle/optic slides in and out nicely. I'll give it the dust test here in a few days. The cable on the bore end is my own safety measure. The lock and ride part, and not having to have the case there when I don't need it is a plus. I'm thinking that my bed may not have as much dust [Linked Image]

with this set up as opposed to what I've removed. I think a lot of dust hit it and deflected into the bed rather than flowing over the roof and out. [Linked Image]

It's gonna work. I played with the location, let this good sized rifle spend some time riding around in the dust bowl. Most things I I get I end up modifying them to make them work, and trashing the original crap soft case is no big deal considering how well it's working out. It catches almost no dust mounted here, compared to the case/rack I had that rode high. Inside the zippered case, rifle is clean. [Linked Image]
