A Rhode Island woman was charged in federal court Monday with fraudulently claiming to be a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with lung cancer in a scheme to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars in veterans benefits and charitable contributions.

Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha said Sarah Jane Cavanaugh, 31, of Warwick, is charged with using forged or counterfeited military discharge certificates, wire fraud, fraudulently holding herself out to be a medal recipient with intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit, and aggravated identity theft.

It is dirt bags like this that cause veterans with real issues to have all kind of problems within the VA system. Even the lowest clerk at the VA cannot trust any comment from a veteran without some sort of back up.

People are full of Bull Sh*t. Can't stand them when they lie about military service.
Once worked with a guy who spent 30 days in Viet Nam that's right 30 days. Got sent home for family reasons but to hear him talk you would have thought he spent 10 years there. A lot of sh#t happened in 30 days.

How many days should he have been there? 30 was longer than most. I didn't get the chance for any and I am thankful. Maybe you should applaud that guy.

A Navy SEAL once said that roughly 500 Navy SEALS served on active duty in Vietnam...and I have met all 25,000 of them.

I have never served (Three screws in my left elbow after breaking it at age 13), but I have the utmost respect for people who have, and the utmost disdain for people who claim they have but haven't. The ones that claim they have but haven't, and then use it to rip off other people or the government, can go straight to hell.

During a 44 day time span from mid Jan 1969 to late 23 Feb my Platoon went from 33 men to 13. The rest were KIA or WIA and out of the Company. I wasn't one of the 13 survivors, Of those 33 only 7 had over 30 days in the boonies in combat. One of the KIA's was a man that came out to the boonies the evening before, less than 24 hours of being dropped off in the field he was KIA.
