I am seriously thinking about getting one. I fish Tawakoni a lot and concerned about parking at ramps without one. I think there should be a discount on insurance for them.

Honestly - I have not heard of any cats being stolen at the boat ramps around methwakoni.

All of the thefts I hear about are in DFW and the 'burbs - I'd be more worried about it there IMO.

Will they tear up more trying to get around it?

My experience is more deterrents means more damage

If it is one of the ones using wire rope or cables, the only additional damage would be from them trying to cut the cables.

Think I saw a theft device listed somewhere else, but it was almost as much as your deductible!

Or that hits them with about 50,000 volts.

Have a buddy had his cat stolen from his tundra sitting at a resteraunt in Quitman. He has been dealing with a huge headache from insurance for 4 months now over it. Ins insisted on a cheaper aftermarket cat but when put on it was throwing codes. Lota of back and forth. Thwy are finally changing it out to a super expensive oem one.

I have heard 4 months out on OEMs and yes MagnaFlows can throw codes. I have heard that sometimes they clear after awhile.

Serious issue in the Corpus area. Had a business right down from our shop get over a dozen converters stolen off service trucks several months ago. Won’t get better until they really crack down on the ones buying them.

Drilling gas tanks is what the trendy thieves are doing now.

The last one I saw looked like it had 20 rivets on each side to attach it to the frame. Great protection but I bet it's going to be hell to remove when it comes time to replace the cat. I've never had one last for the life of the vehicle. But then, I always drive them until the wheels fall off.

Bad rash of thefts here. A local church had one stolen off two vans. We fixed both vans and thieves stole them again two nights later. Also had to put a $1400 y-pipe on a Rent-A-Center van the same week. County Sheriff wants us to etch the new parts with the last 8 digits of the VIN.

Codes don't get "thrown". Aftermarket converters are useless.

Pass the gravy.

I emailed my state representative. I recommended that recycle places have to require a valid business license and repair order with the VIN. Several states are passing lame laws such as making it a felony. Crooks don't care about penalties. The only way to stop it is to shut off the market. We need more people pushing the folks in Austin. I read one story where someone stated that the crook was just trying to feed his family. That is what jobs are for. I don't think etching VINs works. A lot of cats are stolen at night. I doubt the crook sees it until he cuts it off. Then he just dumps it somewhere.

I had an attempt on my Tundra mid day outside my wife's work. The plate is less than half of my deductible .

4 bolts, no drilling, 1/4" aluminum plate, very rugged

Now you have to spend another $225 to protect the other 2 cats

Not really. They can't get to the front of those rear cats to cut them loose. The worst they could do is cut the pipes to the rear of those cats and still not be able to get them out of there.

From what I have heard and seen, these thieves are looking for fast and easy. Lots of targets out there.

Do you have to remove the shield to access the transmission drain and fill plugs?

Part of the fault lies with the automakers. They need to make converters more theft-proof at the factory.
