I know nothing about them but will just say that one is damn sure beautiful.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

How about a pic of the dial.

Very nice a 21 jewel Elgin Father time, 21 jewel usually denotes a railroad model. My dad had a small collection of pocket watches, so I grew up learning about them. When He died there was one for each son and one for each grandson. As the eldest I got first pick, and I went with a key wind model not a RR watch. That's a beauty, you have there!

How about a pic of the dial. This is my first pocket watch, which I got off eBay. The crystal fills plastic, and is yellow. I assume it is a plastic replacement? ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/03/full-17434-339446-a8b7497e_2d37_4f02_b2ea_82098d6a1799.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/03/full-17434-339447-499bc90e_d10e_46f0_997b_fbf56b81994b.jpeg)

I've got several old railroad pocket watches but no Elgins. That is definitely a plastic replacement crystal but you can have it replaced with glass. Nice Montgomery dial on that one. You can probably date your watch here....http://www.elginnumbers.com/

I traded a pocket watch to a pawn shop in Denton, in the late 70"s and I sure wish I could find it! It was an American Waltham with a very small knife and chain with an engraving inside the back cover that said C Murchison to M MacDonald, Christmas 1905. I love pocket watches, but that one has a special meaning.
I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.

And I dropped it, now it doesn't work Anyone know of a good watch person in Plano? Likely broke the Balance Staff. IF the watch means much to you and you want it to actually run and keep time, then invest in having it repaired, cleaned, lubed and timed. And then put a chain on it.

Where is Jeff located? I have my great grandfathers Elgin. My Grandmother had it gone through back in the 80’s and then I went and over wound it.

I am lucky enough to have both of my grandfathers watches, with chains and pocket knives attached. They were simple working men all their lives, so they are not fancy expensive ones, but they were stylish at the time. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2022/03/full-22567-340144-bccfbc30_b2a8_4bb8_894c_143442cca0f3.jpeg)

Good thread all the way through, but the way you have your grandfathers watches displayed Blank …. is exceptional.

Pretty hard to over-wind most pocket watches....but it IS possible to break the spring.
