218 Bee got this going, good story about his old .22 LR Ya'll post yours here. Relatively speaking, my old one, not so old Ted Williams Ithaca:

My Uncle had an Ithaca single shot lever .22 just like that, it was the first gun I was allowed to carry hunting without adult supervision.
Must have about 12 or 13 years old, the next year my dad bought me a Ruger 10/22 for my birthday that I still have and will never part with.

Wow, I hadn't seen (or even thought of) those old toggle-bolted Ithacas in YEARS!

Hate to disappoint, no old family story on this one. Bought it 7-8 years ago for $90.00, guy needed $. My grandson and I have had a ball with it.

Yep - got this ol' Winchester Model 67.

Supposedly made between 1934 to 1963.
I have no idea of the year on this one, but it does have an interesting inlay on both sides (2nd pic).
Cool chromed bolt too - no idea if that's original.

This thing has a 27in barrel, and so is great for quietly taking care of, ahem, 'tree-rats' - it goes 'click-pfffft' with cb longs or CCI-Quiets. Quieter than a pellet-rifle.

From my research, chrome plated bolts were used from '34 to '44. Finger-grooved forends (as mine below) stopped in '35 and by '37 the stock had been enlarged slightly to make the take-down screw flush. Any idea if yours has been re-blued? 'Cause I would have expected a chrome trigger as well...

Thanks for that info.
I never really looked at the trigger till just now,
and from close-up pic I just took it does look like it used to be chromed - it's still chromed past the wood stock (and it doesn't touch/rub where it's showing shinny).
The barrel/receive don't look like they've ever been re-blued.




Inlay on left side- (the inlay on both sides is back far enough from the 'forward holding' area on the stock, so it's in perfect condition both sides.

As a farm kid, we didn’t know that 22’s came in anything but single shot. No scopes. And, the rifles came used from the hardware store. We also had no Quail or dove season.

We have one of the Ithacas as well.

The story behind it… years ago my grandparents neighbors dog tore up their trash and barked at the all the time. One night grandpa had enough and shot him with that old Ithaca. Dog took off to the front porch of its house where he was promptly clubbed with the rifle before being hauled off. Rifle still has the split stock to this day.

Here's mine. It's just an old .22 single shot Savage, not worth a lot money wise. Most guns I own, get sold or traded at some point - but not my Dads, never his. The picture isn't great but it's one of my most prized firearms. In 1948 when my Dad was 13, he purchased this Savage 3D .22 single shot as his first gun. When I turned 13 in 1976, he presented it to me as my first firearm. It was taken out of a gun cabinet (was unloaded of course) but I swept the muzzle across an Aunt. He slapped me. The only time in my life he ever laid a hand on me (other than a spanking, always deserved). Lesson learned. I gave it to my oldest on his 13th birthday in 2007. Three generations across 60 years have learned to shoot with that gun. Dad could strike matches with it, I never was that good. Dad passed away the day after Christmas. I miss him something fierce. It now awaits my son to have his own child to pass it down to on their 13th birthday and continue the tradition, by then it will be close to 100 years old. Every now and then my son and I still take it out and run a few rounds thru it, that's what its for after all. I cannot begin to know how many hundreds (or more) firearms I have owned over the ensuing 45 years since Dad presented me with the old Savage, but it has outlast them all and will be around long after I am gone. My sons are 13th generation, our immigrant ancestor having come to America in 1675. Who knows, maybe my progeny can keep passing it down thru the line for another 10 generations or so.

school buddy had a single shot .410, he was deadly with, single shots make good hunters

Savage .22LR over 20 Ga single shot with selector hammer to choose barrel. Christmas gift from parents 1961 or 1962. I carried it to the woods almost daily summer months for years. She became my younger brother's companion for equal number of years.

My first rifle ( and currently the only Remington I own). Model 6 I was given by my great aunt when I was 4, it belonged to my Great Uncle Bill Askew who I never met.

It was my only .22 for quite a long time and accounted for a few rabbits, a few quail and some miscellaneous other critters. Stock has been cracked since I’ve owned it, but it never stopped me from shooting it. Shot boxes and boxes of shorts, it will shoot LR’s but it won’t eject, you have to pry them out of the breech.

Pretty neat little gun, eventually I’ll retire it out of the safe and hang it over the mantle or on the wall as a relic from the past.
