Yes, I know, I should have a safe to keep all my firearms. But I like to look at some of them and I do have a 12x12 room for a gun room. After considerable cogitating, I settled on a Gun Pegboard by Wall Control. It's a beginning. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/IUPcgypLHHnSV2gkz4m-nMcpf51yYtixzt1hUIxJVcA6x2d7GIAd401CdZn-JYUfkKE23-qzjc0q3D30SPHvTUQR-tHOg4WkXngJh7p45g_DCKgL8zYd0_qDwRGYIvql9GbUJCdN1HY7K5WU-cpr9HzA08s7M4QgfTNEK-XTfqQi3WJwTxcIKodsZXoXNm3uHgy-GdekQREg8WS5vVAmuw8DUE7nCraQ28cJGqFqAiapgwF4my2FHelkMINKbRKiAPeJi4PCgSr1f8OLn8lyZNTeLnZIlDg8qOyJOUBn2Sm9t5uNkzY2V7MR1ey6bMgc8v7vJn9daOR4r68VlwSkD5yo1WJM8S0MveyPfi7RpVOBg6nZ0QFdWftHd5lW2TpunBBqavkGlHo4ALzNj3QLLXb_eeDxCOBNys329WfYiV3ycax1YhlUu7iG1KGbgKPaM4MUhezk5kOrkToMtiMV6VJOQxYHk0RnLiIKQ4Mtsg-LB5gx2KrhSVW3yaBSK8EIPkXEMvFfkcVqDiWwTLxXNMP3YwYdDAYZJ03xFojSaFG516REMR8VwURcgmjHVA0TFvy7Pog30EN6GAnSGrMUDtL7RoUa13CdyRZflEQJkNRNYMBtJL307RB6HLePuGWWiyZHBlGtQmoXGU1Vi-0DX6LdbV-W8UZWyY_00fgKdDf1kSneJFQrNGtnUWHVJ9TLM_fxScAyPjV0TMxF5Taijxhc=w800-no-tmp.jpg)

A bit OCD, before ordering the 16X32 inch steel pegboard panels I drew them in on the wall with a pencil to visualize the layout. Totally unnecessary. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/JWmHq-0_5OobRtJNfnAptkK9hGKO7vBMY8F97oePJjJJRdxSNk10Nv3SitMh1BP-zIrl4jxKuwbvlkfHFoVULyQaLM3lI1fcnOw4OIQP7ozSDZITXN4Jg3gMxtvOZDE0lGb6mCjjgklREIrAC_t88TgNDVh9P2LR-gwDO1VhLUtqMr1BrKnX_4aTBjaHoILu29gcBKMSdqhaUsPf21PMm84Vkt-2vBi1NqneQgDlyNBHxqjWnkOKHKHvY_yUUe6CGpkDMkpeB99C0CvZ3IcyExFSRUPfkI52i6TF8fYhk6_T9cjTICVEJc4V08dAG8W1i1BIQHGxO2763FdLglmYYFCU4CBp_fR7jd3aCathT1vourV0vNrk1i2u7B8Lu6yTBwch3wYZML7IWF4C4pGpEvhHdzOF7gARF0NqqW_gfN3k5RPxvEWMSpw5GYO5iYj0rsr_UXSsGb3_HlwNOYDkK_XAO9MpgVOD-FpZ234RZb4rqRRc7qnnbbRs4N6vvUHcXpqdpcl3ukWZ5Ua4I6mpkgYSPZbltlcA8ydcDyvHh0R_DlgFtAvPOIQpz6dNgOsi6tQ1mCOObAYXniNnW61w6LKwr-wwCBn14BqybHtoOCjY54J5VdM_iWg60BZDJEKXxgzyiQGeedsaUFF96-IworPE8v6KSb6cmxcq3Zw97Q91nri_eorwARB9rYimeSiSdmtBDEok054x8i20TV28Mbz4=w800-no-tmp.jpg) Stay tuned.

Accurately locating the studs or at least one stud is critical. The first pegboard mounted will determine the rest of the layout. For that reason, I started in the middle. The pegboard screw holes are 3/4 inch apart from one panel to another. A 2X4 stud is only 1-3/4 inches wide. That only leaves half an inch to spare on each side. A magnet can locate a nailhead or drywall screw in a stud but it may not be in the center of the stud. Explore the sheetrock with a nail or small drill bit to find the sides of the stud. With luck, the studs will be 16 inches on center. You may want to check first. Mark the center of the stud and measure and mark 3/8ths of an inch each side. Punch the sheetrock with a nail to set the drill bit. Drill pilot holes with a 1/8th inch bit into the stud. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/TF3kpUkMeY7jm3dGJ3vaVKpck4B_2qbVn2xojQgbUpWR0jxw-hwnC3bapt6dQBH1S21ONdxLNbdywjl8EAQCqiNmPHwINfK3h7qjuNR6RFvrBqAsulYmXcW-ug5_hJWk0TpsZzq5uOL5E41xaRmuhUbsN21e5Crd7FzntCeLq_zOnRdQd7wb_Eci0c-vr9bOpum9qbeQ0zvkpLoTsSuxREBYl7x0b6dlsW6F3h8rRN4Smq0qbihNEMmm78OxPzLBLtUcV5U-qLncV3GujA8MW61gTdvNvkrlDtpNfoh8iAsMp7uRHp2fGeK43BgW4REXLUyDHrjRiitrQpEmO7pJ_ajl-HsvH5mK1snASzMiJ28XclMNgExBAvU3x8KcvSYJnyV-htqUCwNlWGGz3qM1KjLaTqPFlJXV1FTGuZ5zxtT2g1fnh43eyBvdTsASYxgoEbpmWk8HztWbxrH7hat5JYqtzui9ZmZzGhrU1k6D8trQ0GZnS2J_OuqLagKnrCuX42HCDmBTq9wVVnuj-_58ytOu9jWFgQZwEjZgOFyUmuap5xTLBoM2prjanpkuSNiev1-w3Wv082VIrpWYVNcP6lnYoGhBIKvaeiam8FAujwLloPEJflUcElFG2AqjqbeTuCQrORXineeQu4L4tsMZzFYC6X-GuzWQnfLg6bSid73UtKdlkitNrxoYnkXtsBgYbdxyf93NNn1Asc98G0EvpTAs=w800-no-tmp.jpg)

The height of the panels was determined by how high I could comfortably reach. At a vertically challenged 5-foot 6-inches, that is not quite seven feet. That left enough room for a workbench, cabinet, bookcase or file cabinet to be under the panels in the future. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/fuPtEJhXCV43sGqC7OnUfSClrOCYws3uise2icVORIMfvtgS-jTlBKttembFR6kDmNK7tV1phpZjarjlRT5Zl4xmQeawX2aKauOmOhcgIJc-4HNi-ofGq7YWarL18msAEdL9wL1GiTmiuxtdNQxzEH7Y6YESZJokdEyC5H0GI1TxvNV3rsRcF7ceUfFZPWKqtvu9PaNXpFGuUT_-xJONIyk8DL60zEjm35Dc1O-NDRYY-aIIJnmhFiFWbehASGO3ZTgeMXH59OJWgXPXDAkqdnRHKh3XeY4W3FdXOmaCLin7-RTuug91HXaMjXPuMIKt3_FX4X2EJY0_T03fIgqKcbceEMOILTFjo4SsGLnQALjM_awt7C32aRs88lpHBXEKTdt7wUvVaC_2igZp7JL11gbaDbT2h2izEp1Yxca9jGoy_Q-v9PCC1yocEIeBrd71xtHBbbUh89wyf3vjR7QkZvXu5tpH3BzA1Gj4bEcc2CT5Fn5wzMaUW_JeO7Kghx2uABzqzSimyUocWpUrAAj50H8qABqJw-5lPURGKAnBYeTMOXv-OklNXYw53ANpT_U1PuPVhrBLMuR1O_cyhKQ3XS0A9tSX5D4SMCM7izewJmU03MdgP9Vu3lFwCxN6I5H4_j5nt4D0B8Eagx_5m51p-zIPVUCBox7RlwMmxEvQwmhscowpK9EgIj0jw7PyG8mk6jbgNQ8lA1eRvFNyS_w59mqn=w800-no-tmp.jpg) One more panel to go.

Four panels allowed the layout to be centered between the walls of the room. Buying pairs of panels saves few dollars. An order greater than $50 gets free shipping. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/0-C_yVD95bB5B5X6xlrREwhtbgMjWnRpSRZF-A7k4PYdKXXgS_lYjPvr8xOSoO9C6ovX9KOAgMOi8Xhlp3d7sOt3sTw52DZZXzF9kv7WHQosltXDxrs_Pu7Gz9EMOlJEytBWH4bbtY1GvSFdOyIjquGsmckalAuUs1ixW3JSOWnjlDI2iowL3CyWj_CknGsyrRogqytE0W76C8U7j-d1LYEz4nEDo44o91Z8rOVPk9wtludJF40rtk5n0StGDRHLwL3PLapAEK9Mb36x0OS1uRZvzURBdYHxyaOpOdQ4h5RgegaOrjPf0PCO9FdhHBWyKzkIfj1rQN30LEvD3KGtFF6LmZ-eydzsCN4eWDUfmwt7t1ZYyBdsWEgLOkHqhE19Dy9eNyApovMY5UoTZT7xmV5LnB2X4X3rICr2X8wNhL6U3mw_1HEyAXTOXq365vlTXdiSFhHQUs4M3WYcO28jZy_bKN8KDQKAX9Zvl78gewzGSzbrp3q6mdyfgJ17ZqdUehi9g3YsgRWLUOPln1OIke9ianV-7b2SQJbVPiYE9JKkWyKbfDH01Lxe_6kU5LXP5lZ_YI607mzRLCPpXE9zsH_OF6_2swOaLMD6OxnlKGb1aPl14ALfOHuOgTUtwcc0p80ato9pWgTKPEGyWacxlo08Gy7D2pyO8kTVnQ-x0SGZeJnrGYl0uB3tUFkpSl9Sk0tWeAwQTrU2Ix0KxmM0w5eg=w800-no-tmp.jpg) A Gamo air rifle was at hand to test the completed layout.

At first I wanted to try and stay within the four corners of the layout. It filled up quickly. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cuuTSq7d0Hpk4l790KotGYgNId6wgCoJNjz5PtF_JwAO61xVWlY8oSmuXV206QLWNmz4emC9vvlR16GDf7bg0MYdN7wVe67JuaMyYrIoj0PWOLzWRF2ZodpuNS7mtxCT0s6v7fc9My44reh-XdZCLfG74q0AuarZ9MZByYoa1vleMv_OUoY10U6-wjPwQRKXSVawCPWvr35GrdXWx7WLcu40Do9odg50d7Ikn_JUuvm9p4aFSM3aMAxLPtHHmdI5G2xrpWGMkYKU4WF9aZIsVSqFvZLnqPQFjoV7FypbpoGnWyDzsEYY_EibmlMmyMXT5iuQMrt3S2IPOYtf8BQAoowzwiGGtXVtrLDQgyvAC7ru48mvCV8HqqFhntxStlsSVJQK1NTiZuDF-BRUDsh_In0ltNPw8SXxFGIrEfTaa3C0AEgUkhqTh8jIDnnmvZY2ITb4fIZHjAtYI-FY4g5oVDLPuwwdWzwVLg0st8Tf818OXG06AWnUsrKahrLElTJZ9m5st4Zsh5jbvFSmK_zXtil3r3JP6dQ82F1hdL_9gxU-V8o-QOSecurRjRc-aViZU4P11l569IAdFFad2jnrwiZ7CEg-fWKRsfthacwq-sFtvugGX3tYM4uhTry0idhkjP5f-H1OwXSnwEJiyXspNEhhEdDxkfME7MydSH0VwjJeJLRr1EGFIUYGrI92H20HbCl5P8_pCJwNHa7UOSD3m6je=w800-no-tmp.jpg)

There was room on the left that would not meet with interference from the door so I hung the rifle butts out on that side. Still not enough room. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dyqgr93mtFc1JpP3kLG3gXysVUX8v9TfPrBFMVfg4av0F3U6twuW1YdRSk6Ba08XjcQG4EjJBO1wdO7_A4UFB3wJ9oB46MqBAdGT8PvZBS9AWM4K29d1jH3YPnHAa3vu73qZkgDf-nz2aniKgc1fav5tQ_6A4xRv1V76N8ZtveOFFacsAETVnNo-gnqLSsD7TAYdZ1nJZ8mf7yvkxeSuLrSzP2pwMoPu7gfkHq-wNV7058hpHDZZlcfMqoQHqCC6PDMAhKOtk8j1eg_RZcpm702ng3f5zFAd6qzje7XD_7DLmR-vuJL3p_TTKRwI67gpOUu3P2YjGAoWXE9u9cbTyZFRhXEzPssFHx1QrqesLWc3x5B3KjAnnDfJ6USj1E5Hcdukm4Iwa0r2TBEUm3vRzXxhNrE4xVGFAj_Uvi-wT9paEtJFI7BdzfyenP0PMeNXuw9VvUhxxwr73zTCG92tneTykLIuzyEuLIBVRpB6PETGHo0M15Chfv3Ez2vJp5UnEyTCO1RH4ZtHpNLZi0B_Sd2-j3TKLQTqUA6pD2wMOPq-D7ANKVUjbSoFmj1vs6Py5ItFURswkRR45JDdhAGBQiGIS3dKjgvnIJbUXdfmda5tM2u1__9rKBANA2UL7IKoUzdBg7BFn81ciwjXSdmxGWc97ptfrd8JjKBDSe9tBl19UmImb_x4qkytYEsr08nMFcqKA_8bFQ97SjQc1beA54jP=w800-no-tmp.jpg)

If you cringe at the thought of putting knife edges on steel hooks, relax. Silicone tubing slit open lines the hooks. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/7fZGUVvlIQJzl61jJWJ5dvWWM2TXCJXS9ngIWaQObiXhvqwN1MP5mTkP8EWcOnfbYZpMXkLhUfGwcTGM0gS_p5rV0Z5pOhyJ0R-tnmOP6oOCdLYsPQ_tn-tCk72F5k9XE39gQ9PE6iCxEi7MV8dph2mIL0SCn7y3941xqCdopnAX6p99pLpQVzZ7RJiZi72ScFYEZJyaT2VxvhAUuFi95KYEmv12v_v3uLDyMW7u4X4xt9NeiYQIqUTUX-cXJRP45cS9JBwKppAIK3kiazb_t1mctu_A2fs5s6279t4ifRcl49oLU-wh7MqsJ7FFSj9ZE0z9ulWQZfv-HdBWNQCUWqslCQwAeXxor3ccCgIsGyXleYk9sHuQhmM-qWxZkyQvh6i2iht6Fxgab9XHiCKOMz_GJ18VkYLLrY_pwitEniy85mPrvxDl_dOjqfS5LRkcAvHwz1znzGZ27cLexBxCwl5MZAskIBFj6bbf1OSrvb1Ysdi_7JhqGUyXPgVB2FENVTmZDKYFTiKsnrUIEV-JJ8KSA1a1gWVd_pi6vKkNug_t2ZXjqSdToTm4QZB-b42lF0gBnuOJgOvVi0I_6L8-Jf5-6AU6NpY_7MUm2bGWrPcN__eKymNtRLMY3CFYrArkiVga1cD6lASbs7iJwx_94tdNBCJGdW_DxX6kSRsRXAE8TZNk9ppRjEyENdIddJW-gB2vyRww5Gyfgj-f2z55qDHF=w800-no-tmp.jpg) Wall Control sells lining that works well and is used on the large rifle hooks. Let me make a money saving suggestion. It is not necessary to cover the whole wall with steel panels. If displaying rifles is the main objective for example, buy one pair of panels. Space them apart the width of one panel to save for future use. Seven or eight long guns could be displayed with just two panels.

The four panels I bought were still not enough. What I really wanted all along was a Texas Flag. Wall Control sells one through a custom panel affiliate but the small wall space available to use would require a vertical flag. I would have to make my own.

Gun Pegboard panels are available in a variety of colors and configurations. Luckily for me, vertical white and red panels and a horizontal blue panel would make a perfect vertical Texas Flag. All I had to do would be to paint the white star. (That would be the subject of a whole other thread, which I will spare you.) ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/PgDO1PfcdxQuowPt33IT-auDeTV9osfMwhATnJK8ILouCHKdp6KVElaxBLMIsoDO1SXIFIAjPVWepkX3PD1KMoOPJxZAiczFD5dMkhJq5OjW5XRWqmMy1m4jlvYuYBLHSxtL8ZDUzuygdw6S19ZKznrK0miSGYWPYydcE2Q5Gr4rDTI3mrOhUip3jAKF2G1WdYJLH_dRwqoor4gXUOnXPkQ08_m56e82kPA_0R1hDYzl_7uJvjJ6B8nanNhkc-QwVz4XMqNnbuxUsEYKhAzgUcFsEhkL707Fjt5YAAQpE5XKW-N25lMEA5-RL_LfvIumQTOmLwRnVzCOuaNh7pWG8FfbBo3IcJ8PIU2uTCNRIfhQsh8ot7iVIxV38sCHGf3kS3XAvypi63UWJp0RER2xbDadt-aHtsd3SRQXMlXrXCu9SsnrNpTuH_-JaOkjZmurJnlaNATwVvbCjuoz9X9e9sUsHoBmP-0KpUelLpgem3noqDKWLFtaDkhjSr0W_35JyJA4Ra-iOtPTShNEDLrYEeqqCXN-wHOPZTlT6T1PYLqXj8VHaS-kCyFSQ24G2kJTsjqO4OXu1fnPVDA9nW2gb-3ulcpvNcUqaiIkplB3KnHON26k2Rqy4HiwHAgsSKV-_l9ELXfmmWupAxAmD9ZRhzo7oezhAw7-hlGANLmcVfnttnoj1x_OBH3uGY8vc68ANM41e4_lfRSvphm4k6q08-He=w800-no-tmp.jpg) Be advised that there is one minor drawback to combining horizontal and vertical panels. The slots do not line up. Large hooks and brackets like shelf units that attempt to bridge a vertical and horizontal panel will not fit. Wall Control warned me when I inquired but it will not be a problem.

One comment about the Texas National Standard. Flag etiquette permits hanging the Texas flag vertically. However there is a right way and two wrong ways.
The blue field must be at the top and the red field on the right. In other words, the obverse side of the flag we are accustomed to seeing.
Governor Ann Richards committed a faux pas at her inauguration. Handlers had a huge Texas flag hung at the Texas capitol with the blue field at the bottom as a backdrop to complement her blue eyes.
To help everyone remember, the red field represents the blood of Texas patriots that has soaked into the soil of Texas and must always be at the bottom of the flag.

One more tiny detail I almost forgot. For correct spacing between panels, use a penny. It was in the instructions somewhere. ![[Linked Image]](http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/38GRdS6uISdE2Zp1rL6NLJ2DnScBpmc4upSgUWWnY74yFZFCLtCUggEQ_-ztu15ptdh7eoJyox25zrM45BuCsRxOUFkykn-wlQ30Arn3w85zbWsDXvWL5TX8Uf4oekX9t7odBv5zWihGjNy4VkS8Dlb80o0B_YjcFPoETFtGHaOgK2hN8Xmb8l7yGG2tO32JLqVTwJJ8kow0QD2wCzOFMshh6v6QOtSbyyEVUF0lryO6afETqqJh7yWFGC_5JQ1cW4f4UJTh9Wy-DcBl7sYR0LybcsNE-zu7GDAOxvuNEUWWfZi-TWdwvRX1QBRm4CmEFGzO7rwhQ1fUOXjC7o5mWmiwW8SN2S8R34zaFer51_X0aCP2VynPOGQiervWWhZvckbWvPcNAprlEJ7HApx7UnYzvijvA-8AP6c-ALMgZhnSzoUMS0fhqnxPNx2b62r5nUyBekOlKIE4GqifoXNZslhI6oNdWNUi5B1WKCUX4l7w7xqHHxZPIJv9hYpPTGAiEg2nPQV5EoX-KPu_s5WXBRIMSzCZsVc_GDPd5vpi4aCW-qT8agvbMiHsUhDI695l-QMSls-GkM_SgAACTYho6hBdFhgYK148lNhrco9DEOrtQ9S_mffcb-SBoprGmZkZahPVZXVbyi6eT5B_0mcuIqIF5cHV0yQ5_tfv9o-EKaLSam0A3Q94Od8zZApP4OFAnvco9xKOf-AJUGj5eb6DXj4x=w800-no-tmp.jpg)

I like your collection of modern and classic firearm styles.
Is there anyway to secure the firearm to the pegboard?

Thank you. The hooks from Wall Control latch into the slots. To remove one requires lifting, pivoting and lowering the hook. And holding your mouth right. The tabs on the sides can be adjusted to make the hook tighter. Wall Control has no system to secure firearms to the Gun Pegboards. I suppose a zip tie or ranger band could be used to physically secure the firearm to the hook. As far as locking them up, the only thing I can think of would be unattractive cables.

The pegboard round holes allow common, popular, inexpensive pegboard accessories to be used. However so far, there seems to be no need for any. If all those pegboard round holes are unattractive, Wall Control also offers sleek, slotted-only panels. They are available in all the sizes and colors and at half the price of the panels with pegboard holes. Now that I have lived with the system a while, I wish that I had purchased slotted only. I just ordered more hooks from Wall Control to populate my empty Texas Flag with pistols, knives and challenge coins. Wall Control provided a promotional referral offer. If you are interested in a pegboard use this link and you save $20 and I get $20. Buy a Christmas present for yourself.

A bit OCD, before ordering the 16X32 inch steel pegboard panels I drew them in on the wall with a pencil to visualize the layout. Totally unnecessary.
Stay tuned.
Thought I was the only one that did such things.
