I had a farmer ask me to clear some out this winter because they were wrecking his barn cats and birds. I took two males in the past weeks and this last one was the prettiest hide that I’ve seen.

I made my aiming point based on your instructions. Works like a charm.

We have a ton of Gray Fox in my area but not too many Reds. I leave the Red Fox alone.

There is an old unused barn on our property that Red Fox use almost every year to rear their young. We see them trotting across our front yard from time to time.

Our Dachshunds usually spot them from the window seat at the front of the house and you never heard such a ruckus (barking and growling).

Those are some pretty stout (for foxes) varmints! I have yet to see one on my cameras at my Houston County place but see them all the time in the flesh at my place in Victoria County.

They're there, but they're pretty sneaky.
All over Houston, Anderson, Cherokee, etc.
Mostly greys though. Not as many reds.
Saw the biggest grey I've seen back in November
fixing to climb a tree after a roosting bird
of some kind. I could barely see anything as
dark as it was. Big fat sucker

When I was growing up in CO I ran a pretty big trapline (before trapping got voted out) and we took a lot of red fox. Probably trapped well over 200 of them over the years. Never kept one since I sold the fur. Wish I would have. One year I got 2 silver fox which are just a color phase of red fox:


I really should have kept one of those but they sold for nearly $300 apiece and in the 1970s/1980s that was a lot of cash

My wife has a picture of a Silver Fox on her phone from one of her several rafting trips down the Salmon River of No Return in Idaho. It came right up to their camp on the river bank. I definitely would get one of those mounted. I have called up dozens of Red Foxes but normally give them a pass. I called and shot a few in Montana a few years ago because my host wanted the fur.

Some gray fox- if they have a lot of black marking around the face are pretty nice looking.

By 1930 there were few if any reds west of the Trinity. During the prewar forties up to the mid fifties my father led a group of men that purchased pairs of reds from my relatives in southern Missouri. They paid $250 a pair and my dad would drive and pick them up to bring back and release here in Texas. Most were released on ranches along the Brazos, Puluxy, and Nolan River bottoms. I was told 21 pairs were released and from that seed you have the western population of red fox we have today. So if you see a Red Fox along the Brazos or one of it’s tributary’s know it is the fruit of our hunting heritage in Texas.

This fox was dead at the gate to our place in Victoria County. He has some red but is really a gray fox, I guess. Not as beautiful as those red foxes you guys posted. I can only imagine how beautiful a silver fox is!

He’s definitely a grey

Unless someone has a really big foot- that fox looks very small. I saw this critter the other day- it has been bothering me ever since I saw the thing. First I thought it was a squirrel (Gray) but then I really it was 2 to 3 times larger. All gray. Then it walked different. It's legs were sort of bowed and it sauntered sort of swinging from side to side. It was headed away from me but the face may have been more like a cat. Don't have any idea what it was. Ringtail cat? It was in the middle of the day.
