Yes, Charles. Back in the early 90's he was a customer of the archery shop I worked in. He would come in once a year and get outfitted.

He practically lived on the Kennedy and King Ranches out in the wild and was addicted to chasing big deer. Poaching. He had a lot of clients that you would be surprised about. The story is fun to listen to because it is a lot of adventure, being pursued by wardens and of course ranch managers etc... Listening to my wife's family it sounds like back in the day in south Texas people did a lot of poaching and it wasn't frowned upon nearly like it is today.

I listened to the podcasts and interviews on him, he is a con man and a liar but spins a good yarn.

Back in the day, for sure it was not frowned on. My earliest experience with hunting was watching my stepdad shoot animals out the window of my mom’s old Cadillac convertible. I was 5 or 6, that puts the time around 1986. I had a pellet gun and I killed literally every bird I saw, mockingbirds, redwing black birds anything that was either good to eat, or might [censored] on the car or peck at the tomatoes was game. All my neighbors loved me for it lol. We used to run trot lines with so many hooks it took a whole day to set them. Fill 2 or 3 lawn bags with the guts and heads.

This is the very first time I ever said anything about it on line, in the past I always claimed we only shot English sparrows and hops. I am hoping that things we did more than 20 years ago won’t come back to haunt me.

I grew up around hunters and poachers and never was invited out to “hunt” not one time. Age 17 mom got divorced 3rd time and sold almost everything to pay bills including my bow, our canoes etc. I bought a deer rifle when I turned 19 and planned a real hunt, to do everything legal but I was offered a bonus to leave early for boot camp and I did that instead.

I didn’t kill my first deer until I was in my mid thirties. But I tell you what, I shot him right in the spine ahead of the shoulder perfect with my .243, wasted no meat, and skinned him up in no time lol. The old timers at the Sportsman’s lodge were like “are you sure this is your first deer” lol.

Anyway I guess that’s plenty of over share for now.

I made him 6-8 dozen arrows every year and sold him hundreds of broad heads. I would work on his various bows for hours to make them whisper quiet at his request. He would come in the shop after a "hunt" and look like he had been living in the woods for a month.

I Listened to some of it today too. I’m sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle. But I’d bet he spent some serious time poaching and killed a lot of good deer out from under their noses. I doubt all that is fabricated. Regardless, it’s a good listen. Even if totally fiction

Like none of y’all have ever embellished a fishing story, or a hunting story. I get why you want to throw shade at probably one of the most successful poachers that ever lived… but damn it’s good. If you don’t get a kick out of listening there’s something wrong with you!

Great stories, I agree with others though, every fisherman/ outdoorsman embellishes experiences they’ve had. Do I believe everything this guy says? Absolutely not, but I’m entertained, and I learned a few things.
Just like the saying goes, if you say you’ve never missed, you probably haven’t hunted much, or your a liar!

After uncovering my friends poaching incident we uncovered on here nothing surprises me. I was literally in the same stand the year before watching a poacher shoot a deer from the same stand!! Talk about nuts!?!?!
