It's good to see other retailers aren't letting Larry Potterfield set the benchmark when it comes to ammo pricing. I'm seeing ammo prices at Midway that are as much as $18 or 40% higher than what Academy is asking for the same load. And thankfully, Cabela's/Bass Pro appear to be ignoring Larry's tactics as well. Heck, I've yet to find any of the small, mom and pop stores asking for that much of a markup. In fact, the last box of ammo that I bought at East Texas Pawn about a month ago was cheaper than Academy's price.

Midway has Hornady 280 brass for 59.99/50 count. Bought from Grafs for 45.99/50 count. What I saved paid shipping and a piece of the taxes.
There are times though when Midway is the only source if you need something. Then you either do without or get out the Kentucky Jelly.

Dan always used academy as the benchmark for pricing, yet academy never has ammo.

If you feel an item is priced too high, PM or post the seller an offer. If you have no interest in an item, there is no need to make negative comments." Wise words. Free market at work. If someone's stupid enough to pay it, why suggest said seller be violated? I gotta a clearance trail cam and a 7.62 magazine coming from "Larry". I used to like Academy very much, but the closest one to me appears to be in a free fall staffing-wise; a few young kids that don't know sheet from shinola.

I’ve always had great luck with Midway, especially their specials that I receive emails about. Bought several scopes for about 50% of MSRP.
Academy was cooler when it was Texas-owned. Now it’s just another bottom-dollar firearms place. The only value added is listening to the “gun-counter” guys stories.

Midway is a big sponsor of youth shooting sports, they donate big time $. My experience with them was HS Clay Target sports.

Midway lost me when they started charging sales tax. That's pretty much commonplace these days. The key point in my post was to draw attention to the fact that during a time when ammo prices continue to increase, not all retailers are trying to boost their profits as much as others. This allows the consumer to make better choices on where to spend their hard-earned dollar. Simply put, I applaud Walmart, Academy, and Cabela's/Bass Pro, and even many of the smaller retailers for being more considerate of their customers. The two boxes of ammo that I ordered just last week from Cabela's are set to arrive today via FedEx, which is two days earlier than the date given at the time of my order. And of course, no cost for shipping it to my doorstep.

Someone else will buy or the price will be reduced. You are free to NOT purchase anything from anyone…. I refuse to buy from CTD for a number of reasons…my reasons and my choice. Don’t understand why you have to come here and I guess that’s your choice….happy Monday!

Midway lost me when they started charging sales tax. There was a new law passed that all orders on the internet, out of state or not, that sales tax is to be charged. If some retailers are not charging tax, it will catch up to them eventually. It was nice to order from out of state and not pay sales taxes but the states got greedy and want that extra money. But on the bright side of that sales tax thing, 2 percent of all sales tax collected in your city goes back to the city to help with infrastructure.

I have done business with Midway and I will do business with them again. I don't buy everything from them and will do business elsewhere when I find better prices. But Midway often has things I need when others don't. I don't buy loaded ammo from anyone but I do buy components and Midway often has stuff in stock that others don't. That's the rub, nobody forces anyone to do business with anybody. Spend your $$$ wherever you want and if that isn't with Midway then no big deal.
