I for one am just happy to hear someone besides me has squirrel issues. I’m well into an off and on battle, —er WAR, with the fluffy tailed rats. Well into five figures over the past six years. Get it fixed for a year or so then boom they are back. We finally caught a couple and my wife tells me I can’t drown them in the pool. I say fine I’ll rehome them a few miles away. On the way i find a park with a nice pond and dispose of them. Anyhoo I’m a nature take it’s course kind of guy but understanding you want to support your daughter I would see if the “remediation” guy can either (a) find the babies or (b) trap/dispose mama. Babies probably won’t stink too bad if they don’t make it up in the attic but I’m not certain. Good luck and I’ll be watching this thread.

That’s too much work, decook.

For Buford, I should mention that the daughter has paid out $3000 so far. If she lived in the country, like we do, the solution would be a 22LR round, and I’d handle that for her.

I declared squirrel Jihad last year. I have 2 nice pecan trees and have not eaten a single nut off them in 2 years. I killed 10 in a few months. I have only seen 2 in my yard this year and one of those I pulled out of the pool skimmer yesterday.

My wife is on a mission too! Damn tree rats continually dig up the bulbs from her garden and knock decorations over, let alone chew up the fence tops. She's gotten pretty good with the pellet rifle.

603, lock down the one way door and have her go buy a couple adult ferrets and turn em loose in the attic. She won't have any critter problems in the attic after that

Are they sure there are babies left in the attic? This is too early in the year for squirrels to have their young. peep

Her husband says he crawled the attic and could not find baby squirrels. Regardless, the full grown squirrel, male or female, is still trying insanely to get back in the attic. The ferret idea sounds interesting.

See if you can get SA Hunter to help. Maybe some of his skills dealing with raccoons will transfer over

Minor update. There are no baby squirrels. The frantic critter apparently just wants back in its house. The SIL, who is a real softy, has taken a liking to the squirrel, named it Hidee and wants to take food to it. He also told my daughter that he’d like to ask me to make a little squirrel house for it. She said she was gonna take a frying pan to the side of his head for stupid ideas like that. The SIL goes outside and talks to it.

I think your daughter should implement said plan.

I hate the stupid things. The front of my house has eyebrows on one of the peaks. The stupid things climb up the trees, jump onto the roof, get onto the eyebrows and then chew through the facia boards to get into the attic. Even trimming the trees back every couple of years doesn't help. Two years after we moved into the house, I had to replace the decking in both eyebrows because they chewed their way in and then basically ate the decking under the shingles. I've wrapped the facia boards with chicken wire and they still get on there and try to chew through it.

Thanks,
Rich

I used chicken wire to keep the little critters out of my deer feeder. They eventually chewed through it. I replaced it with a heavier duty wire cloth, and I guess their little choppers could not get through that. As for the daughter and her squirrel issue, I’m in observer mode. Not my problem.

Gamo Whisperpro pellet gun, it works.

I may know someone that loves in DFW also that “may” have killed 27 in the last year, no more squirrels in the attic. Just watch for walkers in the neighborhood before taking your shot.
