For those of y'all that have hunted South Africa, what boots would you recommend?

My son and I just used Columbia hiking boots.

We went in May. We never saw rain.

any comfortable walking/hiking boot you prefer. I would recommend a pair of gators if you plan on wearing shorts.

I usually bring a pair of high top tennis shoes style hikers and a lightweight hiking boot. Really anything you where deer hunting are going to be ok. Depending on where your going it can get pretty cold in South Africa.

Comfort, ankle support and breathable. Don't go to heavy

Looked over both boots and I would say the Twisted X 6" is ideal.

What would make you say that? I'm just curious. I have worn both brands in other shoes and the most comfortable to me has been the Irish Setters.

Every area is a little bit different, with various sands, soils, rocks, and brush. The best thing to do is ask your outfitter for the particular area (s) you will be in. My Irish Setter/Redwing upland boots are some of my favorites for long walks in sandy soil and river beds, but they suck for heavy rocky areas where we hunted klippies, mountain reedbuck, etc. My Vibram soled mountain boots were better for that, but they are noisy for close in stalking, when you want to feel what's under your foot. If there are lots of various acacia with thorns, definitely leave the sneakers at home!! The thorns are tough enough to go right thru 10 ply tires on the Cruiser, and you do not want to find one sticking in your foot.

For me the grip of Irish Setter didnt look to have enough, it was almost smooth compared to the Twisted X. Both are good boots but that extra bit of grip will help coming down a hill side.

Either one will be broken in before I go.

If you are looking for support and stability I would look at the Lowa Rengade. Most of the time you're fine with good trail sneakers there.

I wear the Lowa when I'm in uniform. Great boot for sure.
