Not sure if the freezes these past 2 years have messed things up, but I've been out to Granger twice - down by the dam in the woods, and over off to the West and I have not as much as seen a squirrel my last 2 visits. I live up North of Austin and not sure where else I might look for some squirrel. Any recommendations for CenTex?
Thanks! JB

I had nine in my front yard earlier today….been putting sunflower seeds out and everything is hammering it That’s it. Get a big sack of those black oil sunflower seeds (should be where the bird seed is) and just dump it out right where you like to hunt. They won’t be hard to find! You can drill some big holes in a log and fill them with peanut butter too. And smear it around in the bark on the trees facing you. Sometimes you can shoot 2 or three while they try to decide whether to flee or take one more bite.

Find you a pecan orchard next to a forest area and ask the owner if you can hunt there. I found one near San Marcos that the owner gives me a big smile when I show up. Just look for any local ads that has pecans for sale and start there.

I don't think squirrels live to long on Granger. Not a big enough place with the number of hunters in this area.

I look up and usually find them on tree branches.

I was seeing some at Granger but wasn't getting a good enough look to shoot one. Eventually I picked a spot that looked like good habitat for a squirrel. It was near water and hardwoods. I just sat down and got still and quiet for about 15-20 mins. Then I saw one come cruising along through the trees and I got him. He didn't see me until I raised my shotgun. I think the movement got his attention, but it was too late for him to avoid me. Sat down and waited again and got another one the same way. When I was moving through the woods I think they were seeing me and avoiding me. When I was in a good area being still, they didn't seem to notice me until I raised my shotgun.
You may have tried this already but just sharing my tiny bit of experience. I'm learning to hunt and started with squirrels. So I am definitely not the expert...
