Anyone have experience with the Older as in pre HD Gold Ring spotting Scopes? I found a decent deal on one, but kinda wondering if investing in a 14+ year old spotting scope would be cost effective. The glass is clear and no visible damage other than wear from age.

I am not a particularly knowledgeable guy when it comes to spotting scopes, but I have some old Leupold scopes with good glass. Older by far than 14 years. So, if I was buying, it would come down to price, and what I think it’s worth. Compare price to new ones.

And if you don’t want it, let me know what he’s asking. I presently have a terrible spotting scope. An upgrade would be good - for me.

We have one, spouse likes it for packing in to spot as it is lighter than our Swaro.
Good spotter you should get good use from it. Get a good, stable tripod and a window mount.

I have one and love it, literally thousands of hours of looking thru it. It has been all over this country and even to Africa. Make sure you have a steady tripod. $400 is a good price, and you should get lots of use out of it.

I'll bet they say that the lens coating has de-laminated and they will replace or repair under their warranty.
