Hi. Was looking for some advise from THF. I want to take my Dad on his/our first western elk hunt. His is early 70’s in reasonable shape for his age, but I am looking for a hunt with easy terrain. He isn’t going to be able to handle really difficult climbs. So very moderate to easy terrain is going to a key focus point. Want to stay in a lodge versus hotel, no camping outdoors in a base camp. Not looking for a monster trophy, or super lux high end lodge. Would like to target something all in less than $9,500 each.

We only have two elk points in CO, and want certainty of a hunt, so would need a private land hunt.

Understand there are some west Texas elk outfitters, but focusing on NM and CO for now.

Targeting a 2024 hunt.

From another post I see La Garita Outfitters in CO (thanks Bobo)

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Spur Outfitters in NW Colorado, also look into Ranching For Wildlife hunts on ranches in Colorado.

I went with Rio Brazos Outfitters in 2019, exactly what you describe. Not terrible hiking, nice cabin off grid, bulls werent huge but all hunters there (8 the week I was there) tagged out on respectable elk. I really enjoyed my time there, ate a lot, enjoyed the scenery and the guides were a blast. Definitely one of my most memorable hunts.

KB outdoors in Colorado has some good options on his eastern plains hunts and their private ranch... I would definetly recommend paying a little more to go with a reputable outfitter, $9500 each should get you a good hunt at a solid bulk..Colorado I would recommend private land, NM you have a better shot a bigger bulls and more good public land but most good units are hard to draw and landowner vouchers get expensive. Colorado had more over the counter tags, I would not wait to book because alot of outfitters go 2 years out and prices keep going up.
