So VERY early in the process, but starting to look at travel trailers and looking for some feedback.

A few comments on my situation.
- pulling with an F150 (any size limitation?)
- Family of 6. We won't always be together, but would like the option to accommodate all of us. (queen plus bunks)
- Like space, but don't want/need anything too long.

Any suggestions? Anything to look for or stay away from?

What's your budget? I'm and Airstream fan (we have a 30 footer), however they're not for everyone. But they do last longer than most brands out there, and probably the easiest towing of all.

I own a 34 ft Jayco bumper pull with a queen and bunks and 1 slide. I love it but wish I'd of went with a 28 footer with less length in the kitchen area. 34 footer is just too long for me. But, it was what we got a deal on so I don't plan on trading it.

I would definitely get something with a slide out even if it means a shorter trailer. . Check not only your trailer weight capacity but also your carrying capacity. Look at hitch weight and add in anything you carry in the truck including people. Lots of 1/2 tons have the towing capacity but come up short in the weight capacity of the truck.

Get a weight distributing hitch no matter what you buy. 6 people in a camper will get cramped quick. Get a little bigger if your truck can handle it.

As stated, get as large as you can. If you are stuck in it due to weather it will quickly shrink.

There was a thread on here in years past about one or more on here buying like new used Airstreams. They kept them a few years and lost almost nothing.

I have to say that sounds interesting.

Oh...... no. I missed that part. I have a f250 gas 4x4 but they claim it's 1/2 ton towable. My buddy had the same trailer and pulled it with a 1/2 ton but I feel like that would be a little light.

We pull a Grand Design 2150RB (6000ish pounds) with a Tundra. It’ll sleep 3. If you want to sleep 6, you’ll need a bigger TT, and then I’d suggest a 3/4 ton truck. You can pull pretty much any bumper pull TT with a 1/2 ton, but beyond a certain weight it isn’t advisable.

Slide outs are good, particularly if there are a bunch of you. It opens up the living space. Airstreams, as good as they are, don’t offer slide outs. Airstreams do pull better. We used to have one.

You will want an anti sway/weight distribution hitch. We use a Blue Ox, and I’m very happy with it.

You will want a brake controller, and I strongly suggest a Teconsha P3

Stupid expensive, but if you do not pay cash for one by the time you pay it off 10-20 year note it will still be there and excellent resale value.

Mine is too small for 6. Mine will sleep 4 small children and two adults.
Would sleep 4 adults comfortably, just too much to be stuck inside during bad weather.

That's why I was asking price, mine is a 25' International Signature series. W/D hitch with sway control.

I suppose it's not funny on the wrong end. No kidding, Not long after the 2000 "Dot Com" crash I bought a like new 21' XPress Center Console boat with a 150 Yamaha 4-Stroke with eleven hours on it. The motor blew up this last fall. I sold it to a Gainsville dealer that does rehabs for about $2,500 less than I gave for it.

When I bought the boat it had about a $2,000 Lowrance. For me that was a $2,000 depth finder (Lear Jet instruments in front of a student pilot), grin It went out. It had about a $125 Hummingbird depth finder and toast trolling motor batteries when I sold it. All in all, a Great Experience!

In my other post, I think some guys were finding like new Airstreams that were five or so years old, taking good care of them a few years, and stepping out a little to no loss.

Sorry, should have included budget.

Not sure exactly, but hoping <$30K. If we really get into it, maybe we look at higher end ones, etc.

Look at the tow weight, tongue weight, and total weight for your truck and shoot for 50% on those measurements, especially total gross weight. Also know you’ll add about 1k lbs of cargo.. 3-500 lbs in the bed. Weight from packing stuff adds quick.
I pull at 31 ft bunk with 1 big slide. If you’re shopping economy, check out fun town rv.
Also know if you’re buying new, you’ll most likely be replacing tires as soon as you purchase. Weight distribution hitch is a must hauling with a half ton and bumper pull.

I think you might find you will have to upgrade the truck to get a big enough RV. I started with a tent, then popup, then RV now back to a tent. If you crunch the numbers figuring in diminished gas mileage you will likely be better off renting a cabin or nice hotel. If you are set on an RV try renting a few. Sleeping 6 probably will require using the coach or dining table for a bed. This can be challenging. If you do not have a slide finding room for everyone to stand and get dressed can become a problem.
