I've had a few in my Johnny House. I opened the door and stood back. Thirty feet away. Bang.

As a kid, going to school in the winter in Minnesota , I set traps in the ditch culverts to trap mink, one day I approached the culvert, bent down to see and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You guessed it, right in the face, headed for home, not school, sick as a dog, spent the next two nights sleeping in the barn.

They go under houses to sleep or den up, not to eat. They don’t like bright light in their ‘living area’. Just try the lights. Give it a try. No need for a trap or ammo. I have a couple of the small Harbor Freight work lights. Really bright and pretty cheap. This isn’t something I ‘heard about’ but haven’t tried. It’s what I’ve done a couple of times and what I’ll do again if need be.

I use a skunk trap baited with catfood or chicken. The skunk trap is skinny and short so they can not lift their tail to spray.
This. Use a short live trap so the skunk cannot raise his tail.

My Dad trapped a few. I asked if he got sprayed when he dropped the blanket over the trap. He said “not much”.
Is "not much" like being a little bit pregnant?

Local guy at the feed store was telling me about the time they caught a bunch of babies after the mom got run over. They decided to keep a female and sell the rest as pets. So he starts flipping them over and checking for boy/girl. He flips over a small male, lifts the tail back and boom...squirts him right in the mouth, face eyes, nose, oily disgusting mess. He says he starts vomiting and can't stop puking his guts out. To this day if he smells one while driving he has all he can do to not puke.

When I set my trap line every year, the first few days are skunk days. They are the dumbest, easy to trap animal in this state. I typically get a hundred or more a year.

Tomahawk Traps. So far 3 out of a hundred or so coons. Marshmallows in trap. Shoot um with a 20 gauge and quickly load in tractor bucket and haul to back place and dump um out of trap. Not one has leaked or sprayed.

The wife got a big ole box and I dumped about half in the skunk hole under the shed (8ft x 8ft). The next morning about half of that was kicked out of the hole. So I got the rest of the box and shoved it in the hole with a stick and pushed it up as far as it would go. Same thing the next morning, only moth balls were all over the yard, I could still see the rest of the mothballs up in the hole. It was like I was just ticking it off. I could smell the mothballs as I walked to the shed. I finally got out the live trap and pellet gunned that stinker. I was tired of playing games.

Careful with the moth balls. They are toxic to dogs.

Dog food, live trap. I would ease up to them with a blanket wrapped around a six foot pvc pipe, slowly walk up to trap and cover it. I had a 3 inch plastic hose over tail pipe and slip under blanket, start vehicle, 17 minutes later skunk gone, no spray

There is no way you can shoot it and it won't spray. I've trapped 100+ and tried everything from head shot to trying to break the spine etc.
The trappers who do it all the time use a "skunk pole". It's a syringe filled with acetone on the end of a 6 ft pole and they inject it into the chest cavity and they don't spray 90% of the time.
The only other option would be to cover with a tarp or something and try to contain it and or the hose hooked up to the truck exhaust seems like it might work..

Go to Tractor Supply or Atwood’s. Buy a skunk live trap. Skunk cannot spray. I have several and they work. This one is at northern tool. To dispatch just tie a rope to it and drop it in deep water for 5 minutes. Or take to the woods and let loose.

Trapping them is not the problem. Emptying the trap is ...

Just drown them, no spray or if they do it is under water and not much smell.

Thanks for the good advice guys!
I put cayenne pepper & moth balls under the house. Put my extra bright work light under the house. I set a trap in the yard baited with sardines. Something showed up about 2:30 am as we were awakened by my dog going crazy. I was sure I had caught a skunk. But whatever it was it didn't go in the trap & never went under the house either.
I'll keep trying & keep you posted.
BTW: I live on a lake & I have a rope tied to the trap. If I trap the skunk it will be a short trip until it's sleeping with the fishes.

I caught one in a live trap using sardines. Snuck up and shot it in the head with a gamo pellet gun, thinking it wouldn’t spray.
I was wrong. Oh so wrong. I also shot one in a live trap ONCE in the head with a 20 gauge (the key word here is ONCE, never again). The dumbass thought process was that by shooting it in the head, that the brain wouldn't have time to trigger the spraying. WRONG! That grassy area stunk for 2 weeks. The smell was 10X worse than when you pass a roadkill skunk. #worstsmellever
