Posting this just as a heads up on doing basic maintenance if you have a gas range..

We remodeled the kitchen about 11 years ago and had this gas range put in. A couple of days ago the top front left burner would not ignite, could hear it clicking and smelled gas but no fire?
I am no handy Dan by any means but thought I would take a look at it.

So I open the oven door, take the racks out shine the flashlight up and no access that way.
Grabbed the sides of the stove top and pulled up and bingo it lifted right up thank goodness, live and learn.

Turns out it was a big piece of debris blocking the gas from entering the burner. What I was surprised to see is the amount of food inside and grease around the edges.
So the concern is if you do not clean the inside periodically what are the chance of possibly having a grease fire from the build up?

Any of y'all actually have some sort of scheduled maintenance on things like this, if so how often?

Cleaned the debris out of the way and back in business

Used Dawn dish soap and water to clean the rest of it up, getting the grease off with other stuff baked in was the workout, any suggestions on a cleaner for next time?

The woman is happy now!

Dawn is about the best grease cleaner available.
Those pictures take me back a couple of decades. The new gas range/oven I just installed has a completely different build on the burner/gas injector assembly. Nearly impossible for food or grease or etc to get below the upper metal deck. Go look at the GE gas ranges in Home Depot.

Changing the GE range from NG to propane was not complicated. The air intakes did not have to be adjusted; just swap out the brass injectors and flip the gas regulator cap. I am impressed.

Your best cleaner for this job comes from the auto parts store or the sporting goods store.

A gun cleaner or engine head cleaner label for Carbon Removal. Apply it and let is soak. then attack with steel wool.

We all need to practice Whoa more.
