Had a pretty solid hunt this past weekend. We found 26 coveys across two days. Scenting conditions pretty tough, cover still very good. Its the first time I hunted in a die off down there, but have had to cancel a couple of trips because it had started. Some of the coveys were 6 to 8 young birds that were very thin and almost too weak to fly. Definitely a late hatch, and the lack of ran either wiped out the insect or the green forbs, as I really saw no green shoots the whole weekend. Those weak birds had corn chips in the crop for the most part or very small white seed, and they seem to run in packs. The rancher did heavy predator control and it was high fenced, so some of them were hard to get off the ground. Luckily 3/4 of the coveys were hard flying wild arse birds.
