I'm sick of the Northern Tool/Harbor Freight/private-label Chinese crap that the electrician picked up and mounted for me at the ranch's cleaning station. Quits when you need it most. Several friends have tried to fix it. What's the best 120V winch? I called Ramsey, but they only make DC. (And the guy could hardly speak with the chaw in his mouth and couldn't seem to comprehend my question on what else he'd suggest. Okies. ) The Warn one looks like the same junk, just $300+ more. All help appreciated!

They make hoists for Jeep hard tops that are essentially a cable and pulleys, with a box down low that you drive with a cordless drill to raise and lower. I'd look at something like that. A lot more affordable and reliable.

The ol hand crank boat winch style works every time. I don’t find them too difficult to use.

I use a hand crank winch. Had it for years. Zero problems.

All help appreciated! Have you considered a chain hoist? Mine has been in place for a little longer than 46 years and still works great. No electricity - No problem. Probably cost you about 100.00 or so. Frio

Let me check on the type my friend has on his ranch. He had the same winches on his last ranch and I can not ever remember one breaking down or not working other one time lightening this the barn. It got one or two winches and the water well pump. He has 4 total in the cleaning shed and cooler room. I believe they are Warn. He also has 2 more inside the barn for lifting things off or onto vehicles and one to lift up a large staircase.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

If you go with the hand crank, spend the extra and get a brake winch.
