I just picked up a 6.5PRC. I have 40rds of factory loaded ELD-X and 18 pierces of brass so I’ll have some brass to start loading some up. I don’t have any bullets yet but I’m looking at 142gr Nosler ABLR AND 156gr Berger EOL’s. Since it’s no surprise that powder is NON EXISTENT I’m hoping some of y’all have some knowledge with this round and loading it. The 3 powders I have right now are H4831SC, Varget, and Reloader 15.

Anyone have personal reloading experience in 6.5PRC and H4831SC??

H1000, RL26, and retumbo shine here.. H4831 does good also but won’t make the speed the slow mag powders make.

Vihtavuori powders N165/N560/N565 all work well just in case you see them in your search.

Anyone had any experience with 6.5PRC and H4831SC since November? H1000 and RL26 are mythical creatures now

There is data out there but I have not used it. It will be a good choice no doubt but the velocity potential is not quite as good as a couple others mentioned above.

Yep, just last week. I went a bit above published on the H4831SC behind a 136 gr Scenar-L and was only getting 2930 fps. I wasn't getting pressure signs so could have gone a bit more but I was wanting 3100+ so moved on to H1000 (which I have very little of).

H4831 is accurate, it might be a little slower but I have got the best results with it over any other powder in a 6.5-284 which is just about a prc..

My 6.5-284 load is 53.6 gr which is well above published max, work up and hit pressure back off half a grain and it should easily make 3,000 and be accurate.

A full case of retumbo is money too in the prc, h1000 is excellent, most like RL26 but it’s a bit temp sensitive compared to the Hodgdon powders.

You know much more than I do but I was at 55.3 H4831SC and only got an avg of 2933 fps with a 136 gr bullet. Heck, I may just have a slow barrel plus it has only about 90 rounds fired so I expect it to speed up. I might try again with another grain or so and see how it goes.

I think the prc case holds about 4 grains more, man idk.. some don’t feel comfortable actually hitting pressure and depending on what your shooting powder wise it might not be a good choice.

53.6 in a 6.5-284 Lapua case with a 142smk goes like 2980 for me in my 27” brux in my 32” heavy gun it goes more like 3200..

That’s a 284 case though with the prc case I’d think you can hit them speeds without much trouble.

I think you are right TAB. I just downloaded my velocity data from yesterday's range session and got 3160 FPS with 61.0 gns of H1000 with no pressure signs. I don't know if there is much of a density difference between H4831sc and H1000 so likely have room to try more SC. I will report back after my next range session.

If your groups open up, that’s ok keep going till you see pressure and hopefully they will shrink before you see pressure. My 284 leaves the slightest ejector mark but the case head isn’t swelling and bolt lift is still light and smooth.
I don’t even look at primers cuz they start cratering and get flat pretty quickly..

Both my guns have small flash holes and the firing pins are fit to the flash hole so they will take a little more than the off the shelf bolt.

Where did you get your published info from? I have been looking at Noslers load data on their site. They don't list 4831SC but their Max numbers are A LOT lower than everything i have read form people loading it. I am not super concerned with having to go super fast, although it would be nice, because I will be working up a load in a 22" barrel. Maybe i'll find some H1000 in stock one of these days to help out with the shorter barrel length on the rifle im eventually building.

Looks like I found it on Hornady's website. Try this https://press.hornady.com/assets/site/hornady/files/load-data/6.5-prc-v2.pdf

I believe I have a pretty large stash of N560 I could do without, but I'll be laid up with a Bumb knee for a month.
