Anyone own one? Was looking at a wrangler and that’s what was in it. Haven’t driven it yet but plan to tomorrow. It will get a lift and tires pretty quickly. So how bad is it? Worth considering or just wait Til I can find the 6 cylinder?

I don't know the power output from any of the engines, but if it's weaker than the 6 cylinder than I'd hold off. I have a 2020 with the 6 and while "it's fine" I certainly wouldn't want less. Especially when sizing up tires. Doing so might quickly necessitate a re-gear.

If it's a direct injection turbo, it will likely have more power than the 6.

There’s only 15hp difference between the 4 and 6. 4 is cheaper by a little bit but a mod or two and it’s easily putting out more than the 6. I’m torn and I’m not 100% sold on these small turbo engines but from what I’ve seen so far I shouldn’t be worried.

Too many brand new vehicles, that aren't even new designs, are having problems and sitting in dealership shops. I sure wouldn't gamble on a new design right now.

I have a 2018 with the six and like said above, its OK. The one thing I can say that I like about it is that I'm less likely to get a speeding ticket with it vs. my truck.

Something to consider is the MPG difference between the 4 and the 6. I have a lifted JK with 35s and the gas mileage is worse than any vehicle that I’ve ever owned. I don’t drive a lot so it’s not a huge deal, but I MIGHT get 13 MPG on a good day.

I'm not sure about Jeep specifically but the direct injection turbo technology has been out for a while. I had one in a 2006 A3. It was one of the first with that technology. Never had an issue and max torque is available at extremely low RPMs, unlike the old turbos, much lower than a conventional engine.

My boss has one on order now. Dealer tells him he MIGHT see it by the end of 2022.

I've stayed away from turbo's for a long time but that may change in the future. They've come a long ways from when they were first offered and have great dependability now.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I’ve got an eco boost f150 now and it’s been around for some time. It’s been an electrical nightmare. And now I’m about 2k from being out of factory warranty and it’s a 6 week wait to get in the dealer right now. Ideally if I can find what I’m looking for I think I’m going to try and buy used this time. I’m not super fond of a small turbo motor but wasn’t sure about mine now and I’ll admit I’m pretty impressed. Minus the several trip to the dealer. But nothing mechanical.

If you only got 13 on 35’s you need to look into that. My old one on 35’s if I drove nice and kept the tuner in eco mode I could get 20 plus.

Have you seen the prices on those? As cool as it would be I’m not paying 80-90k for a wrangler. Haven’t done the math but I’d almost guess I could do a hellcat swap and still come out cheaper.

4 cylinder and bigger tires can’t possibly be a good combination. Maybe for a rock crawler with tall gears, but not for a road cruiser.

There are a carp ton of small displacement turbo engines on the road. Better economy empty than larger NA motors and the torque and power come on strong and low. Have a 3 liter in my truck have pulled close to 10,000 lbs with it, coming up on 120k miles still running like a top.

Wife just got a Sahara, has a 4 inch lift, tires will be coming soon. So far it seems to be fine, time will tell. Be sure to get a programmer and change the settings.

And it’s probably a commuter to work and nothing more?

Not the 4 cylinder, but my wife has a 2020 Wrangler with the 3 Liter Turbo Diesel that gets better than 30 MPG between Longview and Allen running with the traffic. It is crazy powerful and responsive, it gets around 25 MPG around town.

I would go with the 3.6 - it's been around for a long time. I'm pleased with mine - I drove one with the 2.0; wasn't overly impressed. Felt kind of chinchy - quicker off the line and low end - couldn't feel a difference beyodn that.

Get a pedal commander and it will take out all the throttle delay and make it feel like it should feel (goes for any Jeep) when you hit the throttle.
