How did your Young county hunting go for you? Above average, average or below average? For me, a good year with lots of deer seen and some up and comers.

Deer Numbers - average, did see significantly more 4.5yr olds in daylight which is interesting, are currently ahead of our doe count compared to last year (need to get some more in the next two months) and spread out more evenly over the ranch, saw multiple sets of twin fawns that survived into the fall. Mature buck sightings were significantly below average, only had three mature bucks show daytime pics, two of which were harvested and one had broken off an antler at the base so had a pass. Multiple mature bucks left the ranch or went off camera (bucks that did not have a history of doing so) and have not returned. All “vacation” buck pics were at night, not in day which is strange too.

Deer Body Conditions - average, had two clearly sick and dying deer both of which were harvested, other harvested deer were in extremely good body condition

Overall a weird year where the rut was seemingly nonexistent (probably occurring at night due to consistent high temps), multiple shooters gone missing that were in years past homebodies, and a lot of optimism for next year where hopefully there is a bad acorn crop and cold weather

I’m good news, we are at 20 or 30 something pigs for the season and hopefully can break our year record before Sept 1 rolls around again.
