I've never set snares before and looking for a good video to help me learn. I have a ranch that's partially high fenced and have about a dozen places where coyotes are coming and going under it. Does anyone have a how to video they'd like to share?

Check out trapper j on youtube. He is doing some snaring in the last few vids he posted. Big snares about 10 to 12 inches off the ground along trails. Don't recall if he boils his or not, but I do mine to cut down the shine.

I googled and googled …
Then I met a local trapper that actually wanted to teach trapping.
We learned more with that guy in a hour than a month of videos.
If you can find a local trapper familiar with your area and you can pay him for his time to teach, it was worth the money for us.

I realize you want to learn trapping but if you have big problem and need quick resolution, don't forget about your county trapper. We used the county trapper on our place and he did a great job.

Good advice, found a local guy not far from me that traps on some HF ranches in the area. He's going to come by and go over snaring with me.

Pictures aren’t posting on here today but look up RBG round body grip 12” it’s basically a round conibear trap. I’ve caught several coyotes in one this year in places where snares are normally used.

Maybe another option to consider sir , either way good luck

I would not mess with snares but buy me some Conibear traps. They cost more getting started but they pay for themselves with fact that you do not have to buy anymore of them. They do not miss much. They do not discriminate either, they catch what hits the trigger wire.

Not to hijack his thread but is it hard to learn how to trap yotes? We have more than I’ve ever seen before this year and they need to go bye bye. We do have 2 solid black ones I’d like to catch and mount as well, these are what got me thinking about trapping them. If you don’t want to mess up his thread could you pm me with what traps I need and where to research this?

Tons of YouTube videos out there nowadays to get anyone started. Find you an old timer who traps and pay him to come out to trap and teach you how to trap. I buy my snares, traps, lures, etc. from PCS Outdoors. https://www.pcsoutdoors.com/ Here is a list of trappers: https://www.ttfha.com/nuisancecontrolcontacts.html

Try Sullivan's Line website. Hal Sullivan is the Trapping editor for Fur-Fish-Game magazine, which is about the only trapping magazine around and should be available on news stands.

I think the easiest way to trap yotes is snares. They put a line in the pelt which can decrease market value but Texas yotes don't have much market value- only those from North Dakota, etc.
With snares you don't want to use any scent, etc. Fences are routinely inspected by humans so set a snare at an area the yote is crawling under the fence. You may want to place a twig or two here and there to lead the yote to the snare.
Sullivan wrote Snaring 2000 which sells for about $12. Get the book. I'd start with about 24 snares,

I recently started using foot holds and have had great success with them. I learned everything on youtube and I'm very thankful to the guys on there that posted their channels. I started because the coyotes have reduced my deer herd down by 50- 60 percent in the past 3 years...We hardly had any fawns this past season. We tried calling and thermal with not that much success. Trapping has been the way to go and it's very addictive!! There's nothing like seeing a yote caught on one of your trap sets. As stated above there's tons of info on youtube on how to get started and what to do---just do a search for coyote trapping and enjoy. The basics you will need to know is getting your traps and trapping equipment, preparing the traps ( adding swivels, shock springs, anchors, degreasing, dying and waxing.) You will have to select your baits and lures and how to make the trap sets. It's also suggested to make and use wax dirt which prevents trap freezing/mudding up from rain. Lots to learn but it's a lot of fun! Good luck! Tight chains!

I tried calling and it worked a couple of times until they "wised up". Trapping is a lot of fun. Hard work but fun. Highly recommend it.
