Im working on selling my Browning Max LR (really nice shooting rifle) to fund a Tikka build. Im gonna go with a 6.5prc 22" Proof carbon barrel and carbon/fiberglass stock from iota. Trying to find a cheap donor action from Tikka for it. I can find a couple 6.5prc roughtechs for about 950 on GB which would be a seamless transition. But I could also find a 7mag or 300 WM for like 750. My question is, is that the right bolt face for a 6.5prc? and would it be cheaper to go that route and then buy a 6.5prc mag or would it not really save me any money and therefore just buy a 6.5prc?

That’s what I was thinking. I can find a 300wm tikka for $750 and a 6.5prc 4rd factory tikka mag for $40. That may be the route I go just to save a little more cash to go to my buddy to do the swap. Of course I’ve got to sell the Browning first 🤣🤣

If you bought a Tikka in any of the magnum rounds (7 Mag, 300 Win Mag, etc), you can use the factory bottom metal and it still feed just fine. And you will have extra room to seat the bullets out further to gain powder capacity and get the bullet closer to the lands. I've done several Tikka builds like this already in 6.5 PRC.

I would buy a BigHorn (Zermatt) Origin or Kelbly Atlas short action mag bolt face and start there before I paid retail for a Tikka and then took everything off. Better actions and worth hundreds more on a resale for not that much more money.

My 2 cents....the advice above is spot on if you just have to have a Tikka.

The nice thing about a Tikka action is they are so smooth and have a great trigger. The only factory rifle I don't immediately replace the trigger on.
Well, I tried a Timney Calvin Elite once and put the factory trigger back in it.
I back them down to the lowest setting right at 2lbs.

I love them. I have one in a 7mm-08 that my friend cut the barrel down on and I replaced the stock with a B&C. The action and trigger are amazing IMO for a factory offering. Its why I want to build another one in 6.5prc because Proof offers a "plug and play" type barrel in the barrel length I want and luckily its for their Tikka pre-fit line!!! Stockystocks website is offering a package deal with the proof tikka barrel and a carbon/fibergalss stock from iota.

But i won't be able to do any of this until I sell my Browning hahaha. So currently its just wishful thinking.
