Looking to buy an O/U for quail and pheasant. May use for dove as well. Looking for a good rugged gun that won’t break the bank. What are your recommendations?

Citori is my favorite O/U. I have a 12g, and a 410g, but would love to get a 28g.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.

How big is the bank?

I hear good things about Perazzi.

Are you planning to shoot steel?

Its hard to beat a Citori, I've had the lightning model and its exactly what you described....a good quaility rugged gun that won't dent your bank account too bad.

If you can find a used Weatherby Athena in a decent grade that is my personal choice.

I have the gun provided in the link below and this is one gun that I plan on keeping forever until I pass it down, I like it that much. I will sell any shotgun I own tomorrow for the right price except for this one

Why all the hate for the Red Label? Good American made shotgun, that won’t break the bank. I have a 12, 20, and 28 with the 12 and 28 being safe queens. The 20 is my go to workhorse that’s had thousands of rounds though it over 20+ years, and trouble free.

No hate whatsoever. I just prefer the Citori and shoot it better plus it is prettier even if it's just a field grade.

I wouldn’t take for my Red Label 28 gauge for quail and woodcock. It’s a joy to carry and shoot.

The right gun is the gun that fits you, feels right and swings naturally and instinctively. For me, that's my Winchester 101.

I got lucky - it was a gift from my girlfriend back in early 1985. She has been my wife since 1986 grin

Dead on Marc...I have two nice little 20 GA Red Labels that don't work for me...both are late 70's, early 80's guns but the comb or some other aspect of gun fit is off and I have to change the way I hold my head to avoid shooting too low on target...I do not have this problem with any of my other shotguns and since my gun mount is now instinctive the Red Labels just sit in the safe...

I've got one as well and it's a joy to shoot. Got lucky and made a stupid good deal purchasing in new from BassPro. The guns now worth well over twice what I paid for it 14 years ago, but won't ever leave my collection.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

Erather.. not sure if $1100 is "break the bank" for you but this is a really good deal on a great field grade gun IMO.

It's amazing how often I hear something like this from folks with some high dollar shotguns. If it doesn't shoulder quickly, automatically and feel right, you just aren't going to shoot it to your potential.
